I've been selling the CED players left from my Dad's old shop, and have had little problem with them arriving in good shape, thanks to proper packing with the right materials, but here's a sad story I just got.

A fellow wrote me to buy the SJT 100 I have, but balked at the shipping costs. My shipping averages $5 to $10 more than the average ebay CED player shipping cost due to how they are packed. The fellow went ahead and bought a player off ebay instead.

So I just got word from him that his player arrived wrecked due to poor packing, and as soon as he gets it cleared up, he'd be interested in buying one of mine. We'll see if any are left by then.

Anyway, when I'd sometimes buy a CED player off ebay or LD player, I give specific instructions on how to pack it and offer more money for this. Some folks say okay and others refuse to do it, and those that won't, I don't buy from even if they threaten to file a non-payment complaint. So far, the ebay customer service folks have been amenable to my position. It's just a stupid waste of time and money if they aren't going to pack it right. And then they want you to pay to return it, with no reimbursement for that.

Of all the players that have sold on ebay, I'd estimate nearly half of them arrived inoperable due to shipping damages. That was my experience with both CED and LD players in the past. I recently got a Pioneer DVL 909 LD/DVD combo player that was packed only in wadded up paper, and was completely destroyed by being knocked around. Supposedly it had been packed at a professional packing/shipping shop!?

I'm sure everyone has their own sad story of a good player done in by bad packing...

I was extremely happy with the way you shipped those players to me! Like you said though, I have had 2players come here so beat up cause they thought paper and one airbubble pocket thing not even a row of 3 just one to pack a player. The most recent one I got was so beat up it wouldn't even power up and in pic it did. It happened to be a great ebay seller( not packer haha) And I was able to get a full refund.

Thanks, especially since it was 3 in one box which is pretty tough.

I always ask for UPS of Fedex shipping because if it comes wrecked, they'll usually pick it up and return it no charge, or just let you keep the wrecked player.

I ended up keeping the wrecked DVL 909 and got a refund, which turned out good as I ended up needing some parts for another 909.

I have sold many CED players on EBay and have been criticized a few times for my shipping costs. I always buy a brand new box, peanuts and bubble wrap. The box alone costs $8.00. I always charge a flat rate of $28.00 and if the player goes west of the rockies I lose money on shipping. I pack my players as if they might take a four to six foot drop. I have never had a player that I shipped damaged during shipping but I bought a couple that were destoyed during shipping. I always ship USPS and have never had a problem.

I agree comepletly I have gotten too many players in the mail with the gear broken in them, to have to replace the gear. The more peanuts and bubble wrap, the better!!!!!!!!!!

If you seel the player and you know how to pack it right, USPS is fine, but when I buy a player, because I can't be sure of the packing, I ask for UPS or Fedex.

That's only because they will either pick it up and return it free, or let you keep the wrecked player, and they pay off quickly. USPS (only if insurance was purchased) makes you give them the player and they take a long time to pay off, and sometimes won't pay off stating inadequate packing.

Too many sellers don't want to buy the USPS insurance.
