This has probably been talked about before, if so forgive me. It's my guesstimate that when I watch these old movies and see little white sparkles/stars...it's because they were in the movie they copied? Since this is a pre-digital format it would appear that when they dubbed these movies to CED disks, they used the best copies they had out there, correct? And if back in the day the movie hadn't been restored frame-by-frame, you just got the best copy they could find?
Which begs the question; how hard did they look and were these library copies or vaulted copies of old movies etc?

A friend asked me that yesterday "what's the quality like" Some are really good- the newer the movie the better the copy. Watch something from 60's-70's and they are not as crisp.
I'm thinking it's whatever they found they copied, later on LaserDisc still has crappy dubs as well.
I don't think they were interested in the best copy, just the best $$$$ they could get _________________ Scott

Yeah, especially the old B&Ws. I love them, some of them have it much worse. _________________ 1000 titles

Agreed.....if the movie was released in the early to middle 80's the quality is fine. Before that, It's anyone's guess. I have a flawless Raiders of The Lost Ark. This is one of my favorites...I think the best out of the series. A lot of fond memories are triggered when I watch that; of what was going on in my life at the time.

Yes, I got educated on that when, (as a trekkie) I started collected the DVDs that show the difference between the Star Trek we grew up on, and the newly remastered ones. Than the Blu Ray copy. So the copy of the movie they used to copy a B&W onto disc..... _________________ 1000 titles
