What do you think a fair offer is for a CED collection that is a little under 1000 titles?
All seem to be in pretty good shape. I haven't had a chance to look through everyone so I don't know if there are any *rare* ones to be had.
Just curious what people think. _________________ My SJT400 keeps me warm MIDWINTER when the OSD board overheats!

It all depends on how bad he wants them gone. If you look at some of our larger purchases, they come in around .25 a piece _________________ Scott

Welcome to CEDmagic! Alchemy is correct. I have about 500. There are some variable in figuring a price too. They are listed on this site as anywhere from "Common" to "Extremely Rare" It has something to do with the shape they are in, How they have been stored, Sometimes you can get them still wrapped in plastic. There are some varibles. Can you give us a list? _________________ 1000 titles

I totally understand the variability.
I don't have a list of all the titles, but they were stored standing up and none of them are shrinkwrapped. They all appear to be in fair shape.
I was thinking 70-77 cents a disc was fair which is way higher than 25. I have found a few deals in the past where they ended up being closer to 25 cents a disc, but some people think they have a goldmine on their hands and will be outrageous and ask for $5 a disc.
As much as I love CED - I look at it that I am helping them take 1000 discs off their hands that they would take forever to move on ebay. I feel I can offer them lower because of this. Sometimes I have had people tell me I am crazy for offering low - sometimes they come back after a month and finally start trying to make a deal when they see there is very little interest except for a few of us scattered around. _________________ My SJT400 keeps me warm MIDWINTER when the OSD board overheats!

| I bought around 700 give or take a few, with 4 players, for $100 CDN. So really it's whatever you're willing to pay. |

I picked up 500 +/- for $200.... Also, there is always the chance of a group buy (Scott, Dean and I did one a few months back) that offsets the cost. _________________ Scott

I did just find a new collection in Phoenix, AZ. It is 855 discs and on craigslist.
Seller wants $2,000 OBO. When I contacted the seller he wouldn't go below $1,282.50 (1.50 / disc including 6 players).
In the pictures there are quite a few stacked incorrectly (teardrops), but not the whole collection. Not sure what players are included and if they are even working. Always scare me when some are stacked horizontally though because you don't know if they have all been stored like that at one time and if they are all warped. _________________ My SJT400 keeps me warm MIDWINTER when the OSD board overheats!

I should clarify: I did not accept the counter offer given on the collection. It is too steep for my blood. _________________ My SJT400 keeps me warm MIDWINTER when the OSD board overheats!

I don't blame you, it is way too steep. _________________ 1000 titles

It is potentially worth it, *IF* you knew what the players were and you could make a few bucks out of them.
Me being the cheap bast**d that I am, target $1 as a shipped price for bulk. I'll go a bit more for singles, but $5 a piece isn't happening *unless* you actually have the really scarce ones, then I'd jump a bit for them. _________________ Scott

Welcome to the forum!
$2000 is steep for this collection. It would be very dependent on the models of players and their conditions to possibly recover your cost. Usually if the discs have not been properly stored and cared for, you can expect the players to be in similar condition, meaning garbage. Once in a while you can find a gem in the rough or swing a great bargain, but often times the discs and players are just worn out.
Good luck to you. Maybe you can see if some forum members want to get in on a deal with you. It worked out great for me, Beetlescott and Alchemy. The bonus is that we are now all friends! |

It took me about 13 years to acquire every CED title- I hate to think what the total amount of money I spent was! _________________ Videodisc and stereo sound- there's no better value around! |

These large collections on average don't go anywhere near that. $.25-$.50ea typically, even with machines. Machines are usually a throw-in and are very well worn, need service or 'for parts'. A higher price large collection will probably sit a long time.....
The reason they won't bring that much is because usually, that's an intro collection for someone thinking of getting into the hobby and frankly, those people are FEW. People like us who have the machine(s) and a fair amount of movies don't want the possible duplication of movies and machines to get rid of. They just don't move like other collectable hobbies.
I know people who have repeatedly listed collection on craigslist and wherever....never getting their price. The 'fair' price is whatever you're willing to pay with CED's
