Hello fellow analog enthusiasts,

I have a RCA stereo CED player, (SJT200), that I occasionally use -- I am usually backed up with laserdiscs to watch-- and I noticed that when the disc is about 30 minutes in, a clicking sound starts to issue from the player. Could anyone here tell what the problem may be?

I would also like to inquire about how that sometimes after loading a disc, the picture wobbles. I then press the reject button, allow the disc to load back up from the turntable, and then press play again. This second loading usually stops the unsteady picture.

Any advice from the knowledgeable members here would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I'm kind of new to the inner workings of the players, but I haad an incident with one of my players, (Zentgh) player. Every time the movie got to number 47, it would go no further, it just hung up on 47. I had the door that you change the stylus inoff and I just used my finger to pull up on the top, I found that the top was hanging on the stylus, keeping it from going any further.

Is the clicking rhythmic? Fast? Slow? Is it a short "tick" or does it sound more like a fast scuff?

Have you taken the lid off and watched what the machine does during load/unload and playback?

One of the great things about the SJT series is that they are very, very easy to dig around in and troubleshoot. You won't hurt anything (or yourself) by removing the lid and watching it in action.

If you can listen and isolate where the ticking is coming from, that would be a good start. With the lid off it is easy to hear a quiet tick from the motor/gears that control the stylus arm, so it may be that it hits a point (mashed teeth on the gears?) and gets a little louder.

As for the wobble, I would watch and see if the disc drops onto the spindle correctly at load. Often a wobble in picture can be evidence of a wobble on the platter. It may be that the black spindle just needs to be cleaned (if there's a little bit of gunk on the edge the disc might not sit right). Having it go through the load/unload cycle may be repositioning it just enough that it plays without problem.

Also watch while it's playing and see how balanced your turntable is - if it's bobbing up and down this can show up in playback as well.

Last but not least, turntable height can often use a bit of adjusting. Check the main CEDMagic site under CED Repair Solutions for info on turntable dragging in the J/K series.

Yeah I would start with adjusting your table height. You'll need a really small allan key, but that should fix the issue.

7jlong & saskatoonguy,

I very much appreciate your replies and my apologies for taking so long to thank you.

It appears that the clicking sound is only made on one disc; I took the lid off, played the disc, and noticed that the edge of the disc was hitting the needled arm. This does not happen on the other discs.

I am a bit daunted by the instructions to adjusting the table height; I don't want to mess anything up.

I am honestly considering selling this machine. Space in my studio is cramped and I do not use it much. If I do, I will post the ebay link here.

Thank you again.
