Here's another one of these most interesting ebay listings:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vtg-Selectavision-CED-Ward-Video-Disc-Player-RCA-/180700339081?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a12945b89
The code words here are "I do not have the proper cables to set this up with a TV to double check that all is working properly."
Right, the seller can't find an RF or video cable anywhere, even though every modern TV has those inputs and there are discs to check it with. The real meaning of such code wording is "probably not working", but of course why admit that? A person might lose a few bucks being honest.
Well, at least the seller could not use the other favorite, "no discs to check player", since there's also discs being sold and that would be too obvious. And after all they have it all covered with the old standby, "AS IS".
Unfortunately for Ebay sellers, AS IS really only holds true for sales where the buyer can actually test the item. On Ebay, there's really no stock in that term and plenty of times sellers had to give refunds for so-called AS IS items after the buyer filed a claim.
Some Ebay sellers don't have a clue on what it takes to be an honest and upright seller, because being such means without mincing words or hiding behind vague phrasing and bankrupt terminology, and risking making a few dollars less. |
