| I have seen information on this forum & on the cedmagic.com web site about the CED stylus cartridges. Most of the information is about the RCA & Hitachi type cartridges. I am curious about the status of Sanyo & Toshiba stylus cartridges, since there is not very much inforation about them anywhere. Are they scarce? Were a lot of them produced? Are they difficult to find? How are they different from the other types of CED stylus cartridges? |

I have a Sanyo player with the original stylus, however, there are RCA stylii that work in this player. The same goes for the Toshiba players, they too will take an RCA stylii. See the Stylus Replacement guide on the CEDmagic.com website.

As far as your question about scarcity, I don't know of any numbers.

Hello KRBSFORTY! Welcome to the world of CEDs! Like Dean said, I don't know anything about the scarcity of those brands of stylii, but, since the RCA styli are usable, you have no worries:) CEDpro & CEDatum both sell the RCA styli and CEDatum repairs & rebuilds them. There are players of all brands on EBAY, CRAIGSLIST and other places on a daily basis. There are also owners of players like yours that find broken players and buy them just to get theh stylus. I have a feeling this format is going to be around for a long time to come! Also there are thousands of CEDs for sale, many of them brand new in the wrapper on sale sites any day of the week:) _________________ 1000 titles

| I have 18 styli cartridges of which 5 are in need of a rebuild. This doesn't include the ones that are in my 6 players. I have stated this before that if you have a cartridge that is bad, don't throw it away. Send it in for a rebuild or, sell it as defective to someone who needs one and let them have it rebuilt. Now that cartridges can be rebuilt, that makes the worn out ones have a value. |

Wow! You have 23 styli!!! That is awesome!! I agree with you 100% I rarely see a Video Disc player NOT sell on Ebay. I have sold players within 3 hours of listing it. I find it amazing how well they are selling. Craigs List too. There are thousands of CEDs on Ebay at all times. Many hundreds of them have nvever been opened. I find it quite interesting how well our players stilll play. I would venture to say that these players AND discs have held up much better than VHS tape of the day. It's amazing that you can, many times, purchase one of these players that hasn't even been plugged in for 20+ years, and all of a sudden, the "magic" is there again. For a format what was only on the market for 3 or 4 years, IT's amazing.
Another huge plus, CEDATUM!! Yes it is quite nice that we have someone who cleans, repairs, and or rebuilds out styli! So, please, never throw them away! I am happy to say that I have 5 extras, plus 3 in the players. _________________ 1000 titles

CED players were made from basically off the shelf parts which is why they still can be repaired today. I don't know if LSI chips were being produced at that time. That is good for us at this point in time because CED players did not have many proprietary parts. |
