First I'd like to thank cbertra for the grooved wheel and belt! Amazing! So after replacing the three belts, I go to try the player and it makes a crazy lawnmower sound immediately, but it also loads and plays the video really really fast. Not fast forward, just loads the video fast, so I know it works. But it makes the craziest sound ever. I will record it and put on youtube if it can help identify what the problem is. I can see there is nothing up top grinding or touching, but I cant see below the turntable. I just have no idea why it sounds like a lawnmower hahah

Let's take an analytical look at it. A lawnmower sound would indicate a regular tapping, touching or slapping against something each revolution of the turntable (or something else that has regular rotation like the pulley or belt)

You really need to look under the turntable too. Somehow you're going to have to run it with the cover off and a good light and good ear to find out exactly where it's coming from. Your turntable isn't wobbly, is it?

By video loading fast, what specifically do you mean? If it isn't acting like a fast forward scanning, then what is it exactly ? I suspect from the description that when you fix the lawnmower sound, the picture will clear up too.

You don't have a wire or spring hanging down, do you. Or maybe something caught in the belt that's tapping?

The grooved pully and round belt I got did the trick but it's a very careful procedure to get it in properly and all back together right.

Thanks for your help Rix! Cbertra told me it was possible I let the pulley sit too far down and that was the problem!

I made a video anyways on my crappy cellphone, but you can see and hear what it was doing. So if anyone ever has same problem, its the pulley needing adjusting!

Watch your VOLUME!

Thank you Rix for giving me Cbertra's email and thank you for giving him mine and letting him know I was in need!

Also thank you Cbertra!!! w/o you I would not have a functioning Wards player (sending other pulley out tonight) and Tom for all the belts I have bought from him!

I am so glad there is a place like this and that there are people who have the knowledge and are willing to help. I love cedmagic hahah!!!

Good to hear. I'm very impressed with my Wards player. Not only does it match perfectly my early 80s betamax and vhs machines, it uses the RCA stylus!

I also like the LEDs within each button, and the wired remote control. Though it's a tight fit working on anything, it's a well designed player and I love that metal pan bottom.

You are right about that, it is a fine looking player! I love the wired remote! I remember gettting when I got my first Curtis Mathes VCR with a wired remote control! After my SGT250 RCA Video Disc player I though I had taken a step back;). I'm like you though, I still have my VCR, several VHS tapes too. I may even get into a bit of Laser discs one day.

If you do eventually go for Laserdiscs, which I personally think is a good idea as there are plenty movies on LDs that were never released on CED and they are pretty cheap currently. You might want to keep your eye out for the Sony MDP-1700 AR. It is just about the only LD player that plays both sides and still looks like a match to vintage electronics. Where most of those both-side type players are black, it's a grayish/silver tone player:

http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laserdisc_archive/sony/sony_mdp-1700ar/sony_mdp-1700ar.htm

Plus this Sony is pretty simple with just RF channel and composite video/audio out, and it's really good for recording LDs to tape or DVD because it's pure composite out (LDs were pressed in composite), it goes to black from side A to B, the laser turn is quick and there's no onscreen message to annoy you. I have a few of these, but because they are rather heavy, sometimes they can arrive damaged in shipping.

Panasonic made a nice both-side play model that has an RF output too, but it's black. The other one I like for vintage appearance is several of the later model Sony MDP-V series, like MDP V7:

http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laserdisc_archive/sony/sony_mdp-v7/sony_mdp-v7.htm

Which includes the V70, V8, V9, & V90, all are fairly light and also have digital sound and AC3 output, both side play, all within a vintage looking package, but they are tough to locate. In the past few years, I've only found two.

There are some Pioneer NTSC models that are silver in color, but those were sold in Japan and you typically need a voltage convertor.

While the Pioneers are great, Sony has a better laser flip mechanism that is a simple U-track that allows it to roll from top to bottom, where the Pioneer has to rotate at the back then reset on the other track. The Sony system has much fewer moving parts.
