My name is Connor, and I have registered on this site today. I've actually heard about CED about a few months ago, maybe years, but I haven't much thought about it until now. I have never seen one in action personally. It sounds cool. I find it an adorably obscure format.

I have started collecting Laserdiscs since September, which is a similar format but lasted much longer and is about a half sharper than CED. Why CED? Mainly for many obscure reasons. I'd be embarrassed to own a film like Saturday Night Fever or Grease on a format that is not CED. Many other reasons is that most discs can hold up through time better quality than VHS/Betas of that age.

So I'm looking for a CED player. I'm looking for one that has:

- Stereo sound
- CX capability (if any)
- Working stylus and cartridge.

I found a SJT-300 on eBay for $200. It was one of the high-end players, I assume. Although a mono-only player like the SGT-100 would be nice, I was planning to hook a player up to my stereo system and utilize stereo sound. Any suggestions?

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

The ideal players are as follows:

SGT250, it is stereo, has an IR remote, built like a tank

SJT200 or SKT200, stereo, powered disc loading

SJT300 or SKT300, stereo, IR remote, powered disc loading

SJT400 or SKT400, stereo, IR random access remote, power disc loading, will play all interactive CEDs (7 total)

I used to have laserdiscs, but found some them to suffer from laser rot. The resolution is higher on a laserdisc as compared to a CED, CED is a somewhat better than VHS.

$200 for a stereo player in refurbished condition is a pretty common price point. 300 and 400 players will usually command about $300 to $400 in great condition.

Keep watching ebay, sometimes you can score a real gem that was overlooked or ignored by other collectors. I picked up an SJT300, new in the box, but didn't work. No one bid on it and I ended up getting for $25 plus shipping. All it needed was a new function motor belt for $2. It is in new condition complete in the original box. So, keep your eyes open! The deals are out there!

Very Happy

Connor, Welcome to our lilttle but thriving club Smile I am on the fence about selling my SJT300. I have ordered a part for it so I can make sure it is playing perfectly. One day I say I'm going to keep it, the next I say I will sell it. Shoot me an email and we will talk, if you are interested. I have some pictures of it when it is playing and I will take more. Shoot me an email Beetlescott@msn.com if you are interested. Be sure and put CED in the subject line so you won't get eaten by the Junk monster

Mine is the SGT-200, so far so good on it. Stereo model, but no remote. I haven't really seen a need for the remote- if it's a bad section just back it up 2 minutes and go again. Of course I may have to walk a whole 15' to the player to do that Wink
