Hi I just purchased the SGT250 and 13 CED's for $75. In your opinion is this a fair price. Excellent condition but have not been able to test yet. Is this a good model. Just learning about CED players and love them so far.
Thanks _________________ Adam |

The SGT250 is nice because a remote control can be used with it, which would be a really nice convenience. It doesn't have the motorized load, which is kind of fun, but certainly not necessary. As far as price, $75 isn't bad. You can usually get discs for anywhere from $1 to $4 each. You can pick up a player for as low as $25 if you are lucky, so that price is in the ballpark.
I've just got my machines up and running again. Found that bad belts is a common problem, but Tom has them that can be ordered on this site and they are pretty easy to replace. I don't know how many discs you've played, but be prepared for some of them to not play that great. The skipping is part of the quirky charm, but some of them are bad enough to really be unwatchable. Problem with movies is you might get about 60 minutes into the movie before you discover a really troublesome spot and can't watch the rest of the movie. But as long as you are not expecting perfection, the CED format can still be a lot of fun.
Enjoy your new find. |

That is a great find! The SGT250 is built like a tank and holds up well. I own one and only had to change the belts. A new stylus may be a little harder to come by, but there are CEDatum and CEDPro that can provide either new stylii or restored ones.
The SGT250 is a stereo player with RCA AV outputs. It is also the first to use a wireless remote control.
I believe Tom at CEDmagic suggested this player as one to collect in his FAQ.
Good luck and enjoy! |

I agree that this is a nice one and that was a good buy, esp if you have it working.
Aside from the mechanical/electronic aspects, the SGT 250's appearance is super 80's. In my opinion, moreso than any other model thanks to its sloped front design with soft touch buttons. It looks great next to those top-loading VCRs that Panasonic made and sold under their name and various other company names, like Sansui, etc.
A really sweet looking setup on top of a console TV, like the 26" or 27" wood-finish models RCA made in the 90s. I have mine set up in a spare room on top of a corner-set Quasar console with a top-load Beta and an Atari, all working (for now). |

Hello, You said the 250 doesn't have motorized load, If you are talking about inserting the movie part way in and the disc takes the dies the rest of the way, it does have that. If you are talking about something different, I'd love to know! I want to know everything there is about this wonderful player. _________________ 1000 titles

I guess I am wrong. I got mine today! I bought it from CEDpro, it has been completely refurbished, new belts, stylus, lube. _________________ 1000 titles
