|
|
Hello, congrats for your very useful forum!!
I'm an AV enthusiast, in fact I'm trying to establish a home studio aimed to support, convert, duplicate and back-up most past and present AV and data formats in Chile.
I've recently bought on eBay a Sears model 27454740150 (resembles the RCA SFT100) CED player plus some CED discs. All look in pristine cosmetic condition. It is tuned for 120 VAC 60 Hz only. Once plugged in an AC 220/110V transformer (here in Chile we use 220 VAC and 50 Hz mains) it lights up and loads/unloads flawlessly, but it delivers a blurry B/W picture with some vertical coloured bands (RGB) with no sound at all. Here in Chile we use NTSC as it is there in USA, so color signal standard is OK. Supplied CED discs are NTSC as well.
Seller told me that it could be a worn out stylus (At CEDatum I could find a 149000 series replacement cartridge), but we were wondering if cyclage differences could eventually affect CED players performance?
Best regards from Chile! .- |

|

Hello:
F/G players like you Sears model derive their turntable RPM timing from the 60 Hz AC frequency - the design parameter was 60.0 Hz +/- 0.5 Hz. The chrominance signal is more susceptible to frequency variations than luminance, which is why you are getting B&W with no color.
There are two ways for you to properly view your NTSC discs. One is to get a J/K player. These can operate on either 50 Hz or 60 Hz AC and could be used in Chile with your 220-to-110 V stepdown transformer. The second option is to get a power inverter with a 120 V, 60 Hz sine wave output and use it to power the Sears player. There is a page at CED Magic detailing the use of PAL players in North America, and most of the information on that page (except the spec of the inverter) can be applied to your situation:

Hello Tom, thanks for your kind reply!
I'll get a 12Vdc -to -120Vac/60Hz power inverter and try how it goes.
Anyway, I'll try to get a stereo 50/60 Hz one.
Best regards from Chile! .- _________________ VEB Industriebetrieb Rundfunk und Fernsehen Berlin DDR |
