CED VideoDisc and Player Discussion

Anyone who was into LaserDisc and CED in the glory days was well aware of the inventory that Ken Crane had and their ads in the magazines would make you give anything to be able to make a trip to one of their stores. They probably had every title on disc available and had a great mail order service. Now it's only DVD's and Blu-ray and you find them at every drug store and supermarket. There aren't many such dealers left anymore. I guess we should be glad movies are available now for a fraction of what they cost on CED and LaserDisc and the picture quality is so much better.

<<June 21, 2010 — A fixture of consumer electronics retailing in Southern California is closing its doors. Ken Crane's will shutter its six remaining stores and liquidate merchandise within 60 days, having already closed four others in January.

It is with great sadness that we are announcing that after 62 years of bringing home entertainment to Southern California, Ken Crane's will be closing their doors. We have seen many storms in 62 years and have weathered them all until the "Great Recession" of '07. With no end of this recession in sight, we have made the painful decision to close. >>
