| EDIT: Well, the problem appears to have been the actual Return of the Jedi disc itself. I tested a bunch of other movies and they were satisfactory. I still have one question: Is it possible to have a disc that is so badly scratched that the player can't get the picture to come back? We took a look at it and there were some abrasions, but nothing that looked too horrible. |

[Your player styus tip may have picked up some deposit that has adhered to the tip. Remove the stylus cartridge and examine the tip under magnification. If you see something on the tip it can usually be removed by careful light brushing with a fine artists brush. Isopropyl Alcohol can be used for stubborn deposit.

Well, I put my stylus from the 090 into the SJT 100 and it's very nice to have a working SJT again. |

| Regarding the question about the disc, I've come across a number of discs that have caused that. Usually it's junk on the disc, regardless of whether or not the disc is scratched, and I agree with Daxi Don's suggestion. I will mention too that in less severe cases, the player's built-in stylus brush may (but not always) clear the problem. In most players, activating the built-in stylus brush is as simple as removing and reinserting a disc. Some models will also do it during a pause cycle, but not the SJT-090 or SJT-100. Glad to hear that your player is working again, but please check the old stylus - it's probably cleanable, or at the very least repairable by CEDatum. |
