Hi, everyone! First time caller, long time listener. Been a big CED/Discovision/obsolete video geek for a long time and dipped in and out of here to read sporadically, but now I actually have a reason to post.

Recently my local Goodwill received a bounty of CED discs, as you'll see here: http://twitpic.com/304qf

Sadly, no machine to go along with them, they're all used and Goodwill's asking a grossly inflated price (imho) of $5 per disc, but I wanted to ask if there was anything I should be on the lookout for? I didn't spy any of the holy grails (Jedi, Youngblood et al), but if there's a particular movie that someone's after, I'd be glad to go root through and see if I can find it.

You'd be very nearly right!

Yeah, I thought so too. Especially given that some of the same titles are available on ebay for 50c! My guess is that they just don't know what they are, but have deduced that [recogniseable moves] + [large size] = high price. They're normally not that pricey, I picked up a perfectly functional Kodak Easyshare printer/dock for $5 on that same trip. Confused

I can't say much about the state of the discs themselves - the few I took a peek at seemed to be in pretty good shape. The caddys have seen better days, though. Looks as if they've been stored in a box in a basement for a number of years.

Fascinating find, though.

I just purchased a few CEDs from a Goodwill store in the Chicago area. They were sold for $.99 each.

I have every title and think I paid an average of $5 for each one- lowest was 50 cents, highest was $200 for Memories Of Videodisc- most I paid for a consumer title was $20 for Hard Day's Night, since it was in the pre-internet days and I was so surprised it existed (it was the only title MPI ever put out on the format.) DVDs have completely spoiled everyone with brand-new copies of fairly recent stuff in high quality selling for under $5.

In 1994, a few months after I'd been collecting and decided that I wanted to try and get every title out there (didn't even know how many there were, I thought there were only about 500 but turned out to be a lot more than that), I ran a want ad for CEDs in a local paper that was handed out free and printed classified ads- don't think it's around anymore but it got me a few hundred discs before Ebay had come along. Only bad thing is I spent about my life's savings on them. One guy called me asking what I was paying, I told him about $5 each- he said "I was hoping to get $6", so I said "What condition are they in?" "A-1" he said. I scraped together what money I had and went over- covers weren't exactly great, but gave him $6 each. Couple weeks later tried to watch Eddie and the Cruisers, and it wouldn't play because the disc was WARPED! Don't remember who this guy was, but if you're out there, I don't like you. Twisted Evil
