Hello,

I'm a big noob about CED players. Recently rediscovered my grandmother's player in our attic and have decided to see if I can get it working again. Smile

I haven't done much with it myself yet, but my father tells me that the player won't eject the disc. Back in the day, he would have to take it apart and remove the disc himself. So, what would precipitate the player not ejecting the disc?

Thanks in advance! This old stuff is really neat and it's been so long since I've seen one in operation.

Hi,
look on the site and order the belts. Wink

Take also the time to remove the old and now bad grease.

So, I got it all hooked up. Everything appears to be working except there's no picture (black screen). The disc spins fine the arm comes out, but there's no image or sound. The connection to the tv is great, so I'm wondering could it be the switch for channel 3-4 or something else?

Does the front panel numeric display go to 00?

This display will only register a number once the needle is reading data off the disc. If no number appears, there's a good chance your needle is bad or missing.

If, however, you get a count-up of the minutes that starts (normally) at 00 and still no audio/video it could be the channel 3-4 problem or perhaps something more ominous.

But, nine times out of ten the first issues you run into with an old SJT unit are mushy belt, bad stylus, and sometimes a broken reduction gear (the one that drives the arm; sounds like yours is fine).

Needles are still available from a few sources, check the cedmagic main site for a few suppliers.

That's cool about the 090, but did my troubleshooting tip for the 100 make any sense? Any results from that?

There are differing opinions about this, but in my experience the SKT and SJT series are generally the easier of all the players to work on because of the way they are put together (the bulk of the mechanical parts are very easily accessed, not true for earlier players).

Don't give up on the SJT just yet! There are plenty of people here who have seen and fixed it all and would be happy to help you get the player running. Unless there's something wrong with the circuits there's often an easy way out of an SJT problem that doesn't require the skills of a licensed technician.

I'll get it worked on eventually. I don't doubt that it's the needle since it comes out and looks to be touching the disc. Someday, I'll mess around with it, but honestly I just wanted to get something that works for the time being.
