This might be a silly question but....
How does the position of the turntable motor on the sft100 affect the speed of the platter? Wouldn't the motor always move the belt at the same speed?
I may be a little slow, but my player certainly is not. thanks. |

| Well, I originally thought that the turntable motor position would have no effect on the speed, until I tried adjusting it on a player that appeared to be driving the discs a little slow. The way it works is this: the spindle on the motor is tapered, and there are guides to keep the belt from sliding up and down the spindle. If you raise or lower the motor, you change which section of the spindle the belt rides on, and since the spindle is tapered, the belt may be riding on a section of the spindle with a slightly larger or slightly smaller diameter, depending on the position that the motor is set to. The difference in diameter is just enough to cause a slight change in the belt speed, thus causing a slight change in the turntable RPM, even though the actual motor is not changing speed. |
