CED VideoDisc and Player Discussion

Have had a CED player for over 2 years now, just finally got around to getting a disc to play in it....

When it plays, it has a funky problem with thew color (see video link below)

I'm wondering if the problem is with the disc, or the player? Can anyone help out on this?

That's definitely the player. I'm guessing your player is one of the following models: RCA - SFT-100, SGT-100, SGT-101, SGT-200, or SGT-250; Zenith - VP-2000; or Sears 934.54810350.
My old Sears player would do that, and I once had an SFT-100 that had the problem continuously, rather than intermittent, after replacing the non-functional motor with a salvage motor.
To be honest, I never successfully fixed the problem on either player; however, on the Sears player, the problem cleared up after disassembling the player and adjusting the motor height some. The only problem was, once I screwed the top metal bracket (inside, towards the front of the player), it would act up again, so I don't know if the plastic parts were warped, applying stress and thus moving the motor a little, or what the problem was.
But from discussing this problem with other members, it usually has something to do with the motor height. Due to the shape of the motor's pulley, raising or lowering the motor causes a slight change in the turntable speed. I don't remember exactly what they look like, but there are screws that hold the motor in place and turning those screws will raise or lower the motor.
Of course, it could simply be the belt as well. There's a guide near the motor that the belt passes through; you may want to make sure the belt's not rubbing against it.
I've also heard from a member who once worked in the factory that the magnetic strips mounted on the bottom side of the turntable will also affect this. He said that if the strips can lose their magnetivity, and if they are no longer magnetic, they can cause such a problem, but I've never actually checked that out myself. Maybe you can check that if the motor adjustment doesn't help.

Looks as if the belt is slipping. That will cause color shifting. It is a very inexpensive repair. Aquire a new belt from John at CEDatum.
