I've seen people trying to sell CEDs for more than that- a couple years ago one seller had stuff like The Grateful Dead Movie and Up In Smoke for the Buy-It-Now price of $295.00 each! Oddly enough though, the insanity of those prompted me to check out what else they were selling, and was able to snag an Avon disc for $19 from the same people.
Some people think that anything with Star Trek, Star Wars, James Bond or Elvis is automatically worth billions of dollars, when they're really among the most common CEDs made. _________________ Videodisc and stereo sound- there's no better value around! |

Just looked at this seller's other items and they've got a bunch of other CEDs for ridiculous prices too. They want $200 for Search For the Golden Horse (a rare title, but not worth nearly that much), $120 for Barbarella, and $100 each for Fame and The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Movie. A bunch more in the $50 range, but somehow Semi-Tough only merits $5.65. Some of these let you make an offer though, so someone should try that and tell us what he says! I've always wished there was a way to post comments on Ebay auctions when the seller is delusional, but that would probably clutter up the whole site. But if anyone's brave enough to forward this thread over to him.... _________________ Videodisc and stereo sound- there's no better value around! |

The experiences I've had with eBay/craigslist/Amazon sellers on this kind of thing have been poor. A guy was once trying to get rid of a LaserDisc player for hundreds of dollars on craigslist - it was a run-of-the-mill Pioneer, nothing special. I politely mentioned (directly, not in the listings) that he might want to consider dropping the price a little, and that saying "13 discs included" doesn't mean much, so he should include the titles.
He wrote back with "so do you want to buy it or not?" I answered in the negative, to which I got a one word reply:
"pest"
Whatever, buddy. Keep dreaming.
The same stupid player would get reposted every few weeks. Price lowered by $.50 or something ridiculous. Either he was patient enough that he got a sucker, or he's still sitting on it wondering why no one wants it.
It's generally a waste of time to try to discuss these things with a deluded buyer.
On the other hand, I once saw a cheap listing on Amazon Marketplace for an audiophile CD that apologized for not having the liner notes. I wrote and mentioned that CBS Mastersound longbox releases in fact never had liner notes. They changed their description, raised the price, thanked me profusely, and offered me a substantial discount on a purchase from their offerings.
So, what comes around goes around I guess - at the cost of running into the unpleasant ones now an then. |

The auction guy also has one of my all time (least) favorite eBay things..."it's in good shape considering it's age." Umm, that's not quite the way the world works. It's either in good shape, or it isn't. Age doesn't factor in to condition, at least not for this eBay bidder.
Also, in my opinion, it's just not worth your time trying to let someone know that their prices are way out of line with reality. I've never heard of anyone having a positive experience trying this nor have I heard or anyone actually being successful.
However, if someone wants to do it, try to be as gentle as possible in your language. I recently got an email about a CD I have for sale on half.com and while I honestly appreciated the information about it (I couldn't find the correct listing among the dozen versions of this title they list on half) the tone of the email was half accusing me of being an idiot for missing a detail and half accusing me of trying to deceive potential buyers into buying something other than what they wanted (despite the fact that the description laid out what I was selling to the point where this guy knew exactly what I had.)
While I appreciated the info, I really resented the condescending attitude. Just something to keep in mind, because most of the people in the videogame world who feel the need to "correct" Craig's List and eBay sellers seem to do so in an almost mean spirited manner and then wonder why their advice was ignored. |

Of course you wouldn't have a positive experience telling them they're overpriced. What kind of reaction might be expected? They'll get the hint once they don't sell. These goofs stumble over this stuff at the yard sale / thrift store and think they've found a diamond mine.
If you want to show up these clowns, buy feebay (ebay) stock and make money off of their ignorance. Ebay doesn't get hurt when things are listed and don't sell. They don't get their selling percent, but they will get something eventually if the seller relists. Then if you buy stock in Paypal (aka PayAll) you've covered all bases. Then you'll really get their goat if you send them a note saying: Thanks - I own stock in ebay, so list it as long as you like without selling.
You could send that note even without owning ebay stock, but then that wouldn't really be honest although funny. |

I often get a laugh when looking at some of the ridiculous ebay listings for CEDs. My favorite is when they list something as "RARE", meanwhile it's a copy of "The Godfather" With water stains, and rental stickers... Oh, and one more thing is the ridiculous shipping charges. One seller wanted $15.00 to ship one disc! These are the same dummies who didn't even know what the hell they had until they did a 'google' search on it. One of the best sellers of new discs has been MrBarlow (seller name). I also love it too whenever one of those copies of 'The Compleat Beatles' goes on sale as "rare" with a high starting price. There is one on ebay now with a starting price of $20.00! LOL |

| That's a laugh, The Compleat Beatles is rare. Nothing mass produced by the Beatles or their licensees is all that rare. In fact, I've heard their stuff so much already that it's pretty well beyond collecting it. Having grown up during the Beatles, I'd much rather now collect the stuff that you never hear anymore like Iron Butterfly, Vanilla Fudge, original Deep Purple, etc. |
