|
|
Morning all....
I took the plunge last night and opened up the 2 VP100-C players that I have in my first attempt at troubleshooting. I have no idea what I'm doing or how to repair these players. I have no electrical or mechanical experience whatsoever......maybe I should just give up before I even start lol.
I am going to rely on this forum and it's members to help me through what will surely be a long and painful repair process.
I will describe what I see & hear; and hopefully figure out how to post pictures & video along the way when requested from forum members.....
I have a troubleshooting manual coming from Amazon but I don't expect to see that for at least another week or 2 and I'm impatient...
Those of you dedicated and devoted to the repair of CED hardware and preservation of the format.......I NEED YOUR HELP!
Thanks in advance! |

So both players appear to do the exact same thing during my initial test last night:
I removed the top-covers...
Player powers on; green power light illuminated.
Pushed a ced into machine; disc smoothly ejected from caddy, and caddy smoothly removed from player.....
Upon removing caddy the "Stand-by" RED light begins flashing and does not stop......nothing appears on the player's counter screen......
Upon hitting the "play" button a loud humming begins and does not stop........no rotation of the turn table.......no movement of any kind that I can see from within the player........
WHERE TO BEGIN??????? |

Have you replaced the turntable belt or the turntable pulley? Or any of the belts? If you can get pictures or video that can help a ton! _________________ I dont own

I have replaced nothing yet; all I have done is opened the player, and turned it on........
my issues is that I don't know what I'm looking at......when I open the player I see the turn-table; the front half of which is covered by a circuit board.....the back is covered by what I assume is the stylus housing/arm......
from reading cedmagic and forum posts I know enough that several things will need to be checked; i.e. belts, motors est.....but at this point I do not know how to access and otherwise access these components.....really need the troubleshooting book I guess...
From looking at the thumbnails on cedmagic I understand where the belts are located; however from what I am seeing inside the player, other components will need to be removed inorder to access the belts no????
I unscrewed the circuit board and tried removing it to get a better look at the guts of the player but once the screws were out, there are so many wires inside, the board would not come out freely; and I did not want to force it without a better understanding of what I am doing......I just need some guidance
Can someone please tell me how to post pictures & video to the forum? |

No belts replaced is likely problem especially if it powers on!!!!! Good news is 2 of the belts are cheap 3rd one/ turntable belt not so much ** edit** I have never had a player that didn't need all 3 belts replaced. They all turn to nasty goo which is soo shitty to get off.
I can take pics and show you where the loading and servo belts go. They are really easy!!! The turntable belt can bite my arse hahah. You can save money and have a pulley grooved by cbertra so that will accept new belt. The new belt can be had for about $15-17 if you only buy one at a time. Wanna go in on like 10 and save some money?
If you go the non cbertra pulley route here is a tut on how to replace pulley and belt which still applies really if you get pulley from charlie!

As for posting pictures you will have to have a file host like photobucket.com
Put the pictures on your pc and upload to photobucket then get the sharing codes. i.e. img code, html code , thumbnail code. Come back and post inside the thread. I can help more if that doesn't seem clear to ya haha. Video .. well you can only post links no embedding. Just upload your video to youtube and post link in thread. _________________ I dont own

By serial do you mean coaxial? One plug screw in style? Do you have a convertor going from coaxial to the 3 component plug (video, left, right)? _________________ I dont own

yes I ment coax....that's right.....I'm using an older tv; has 5 imputs so I'm not sure if having the tv on channel 3 or 4 makes a difference....it's possible the machine doesn't work but as I said; the counter displays progress......

ok you have the hd 5 component plug, red blue green and others. If you plug it in to tv with the 5 plug put it on whatever that one is labelled... input 1? video1? etc. The problem may lie in whatever convertor you are using that makes it go from coaxial to 5 plug component? Do you have an old spare tv with a coaxial in? Do you have a different convertor? If it loads disc and goes form -- to numbers on display and it moves it likely is working and is the convertors problem. _________________ I dont own

All you need is top cover removed and some handwork on the belts to get the loading and servo belt on. But I guarantee the turntable belt is bad and for that you will need to take that top board off.
What did you do to get your sft-100 running? _________________ I dont own

| SFT100; it was a crappy modulator/converter (and a crappy tv, and a lack of knowledge, and no skills, est est est lol).........but now I'm able to start making it through the watch-list; and that's not going to be easy since my dvd/blu-ray watch list stands at well over 100 films and now the ced watch list is quickly growing beyond 300 films daily lol. Just received my frist ebay order of 12 ceds and ore on the way lol!!! At least I can watch a ced while I trobleshoot the vp100's! |

well....after being M.I.A. from the forum for quite a few months I have finally logged back on to say that I have given up trying to fix these machines (especially since I have another working player). thanks to everyone (Blindfury) who offered advice!
If anyone on the forum would like them (I have 2 identical players), perhaps in a trade for a few ced titles I don't alreadey have, I am happy to see them go to someone who can get them up and running. You pay the shipping and I'll send them to you. The machines, are located in Ottawa Ontario, Canada. |

I'd like those two players as well, but as was said, shipping to the US can be really daunting.
Those players will most likely work if you can get the belts changed out. That's usually 95% of the problem with them.
Mabe you'd like a good working player in exchange for those two? I have no idea what it would cost to ship those to the US, do you?
Alternately, you get ahold of a buddy who is adept at older electronics and can change out those belts for you. |
