|
|
I recently picked up an older RCA multi-device remote control that I think will operate certain CED player models. Since I can't insert a photo, the description is:
Rectangular remote, 5.5 inches wide by 4.5 inches tall (it's more wide than tall), and marked RCA but no model number. It has device choice buttons for TV, VCR, and DISC, and it's appearance, style and color is very much like the SJT and SKT series of CED players, with the grayish body, shiny metallic cover plates, and some black panels. It has two battery compartments on the back and each takes 2 AA batteries, so it uses 4 total.
It has a dark, smoke plastic cover that fits over the VCR/DISC buttons for times when only the TV is in use. The TV control buttons are on the right with the others all on the left. I tested the remote on a variety of RCA/Proscan TV and VCRs from the 80s up through to relatively modern ones, and it operates them well, but had no available working CED player that accepts remote cues at this moment to test with.
My question is does anyone know this remote as a CED player operating remote or might it be an RCA Laserdisc player operating remote? Or perhaps it's a special remote for one of those RCA 'home entertainment center' combination units of some sort that I've heard discussed here? Anyone have an idea? Thanks! |

Yes, that's the one, thanks! Will it possibly control any of the other CED remote capable players as well? I had thought that it perhaps was related to the Dimensia systems or such.
I remember Mike Jitlov at USC while in the Cinema Dept there from 1978-1982. We watched the short version of WOSAT in one of the animation production classes. There also were many other fine student short films shown that do not have the same sort of recognition, done by students trying all sorts of special effect and animation techniques.
I also recall a spirited debate there about the merits of the CED format vs the Laserdisc format. While the LD had the majority, there were several students quite enamored with the CED format because of technical interests. |

The CRK32 will only control the SJT400 and SKT400, as the earlier players used an IR coding scheme predating the modern standard.
That original Jittlov short from 1979 is now available on You Tube. It's interesting to compare it to the one from the full-length movie:
