In regards to my Zenith VP2000 not shutting off:

CED Magic's advice (thank you! by the way.) is to realign the two cams, "The left cam controls switch S4 (AC Play) and the right cam switch S2 (AC Power). Adjust the S2 cam so S2 is "off" in OFF and "on" in PLAY."

Okay, I found the two cams, it took me awhile to find them, and have been trying to get them adjusted.
After a couple of hours of effort the player still only plays movies in the OFF position (of the function lever), but the unit's power WILL cut out if I lift the lever up past the OFF position.
I guess I need more info on when a switch is "off" and when is it "on"? Should the S2 cam make contact with the S2 switch for it to be "on" or should it not make contact?

Thanks for any help with this!

The S2 microswitch is off and not conducting electricity when the switch lever is pushed down.

So with the function lever at the OFF position, the S2 switch should be making contact with the cam and be pushed down. When the function lever is then moved to PLAY and LOAD/UNLOAD, the cam should rotate far enough for the switch lever to lift and turn the switch on.

If this adjustment does not seem possible to achieve, the function lever elbow may have been bent out of shape by someone forcefully trying to rotate the function lever with a caddy pushed all the way into the player. In this case, disassembly will be needed to get the elbow out and try to bend it back to the proper shape.
