I have a repair question about a newly acquired SJT-300. It was well packed, but I wonder if UPS played "spin-the-box" with it. The turntable was not completely down after removing the cover for inspection, so I did get it back down, now when it makes its revolutions the griding noise it makes isn't normal.

Right now I can't access the Repair Options Page at http://www.cedmagic.com/tech-info/repair-solutions.html, so I am wondering if anyone can give me some advice. I also remember some guys here also fix these things professionally or rather close to it, but I don't remember who or where, so if someone could post that info, I'd be grateful.

Thanks
Dan

Another interesting oddity I noticed was the reduction gears and drive motor spindle, all are covered with a black adhesive residue. I've seen bands and belts disintegrate, but not like this. It was almost like a glue.

If your player had a bumpy ride on its way to you, the turntable spindle may have broken away from the platter. This can cause a grinding noise when the TT rotates. This is not uncommon and is easy to fix.
Go to the Tech Tips page of our website: www.cedatum.net for instructions on how adjust and re-cement the spindle.

Gooey tar on the loading motor. The original RCA belt will after time degrade into a gooey mess. Try not to get this stuff on your fingers !!
To remove the mess, we recommend a paper towel soaked in a little Window Cleaner with Ammonia. -a household item in a spray bottle.
