| I got a 2nd player today that now has a disc stuck in it that i cant get out...i took the stylus out of it and put it in the original player i bought a week or so ago. It plays the disc but the picture is red and green and kinda looks like the old VHS that had the macrovision in them...when you tried to record one and it was discolored...is this a stylus issue or does it sound like something else? Can anyone give me some tips or something to check and also how do i get the disc out of the other one? It was like the case would stick halfway in them it took the disc but now the case wont go all the way in to get the disc out...and it does make quite a bit of noise when it is turning the disc....I can send a video of the problems if anyone is willing to help me....i have wanted one of these since it came out when i was in 10th grade...... |

Ok so with the little bit more info here is what I think is happening to one of them.
The one that shows picture but has the colors flickering in and out is caused by the turntable "tt" not getting up to 450 rpm's. There are a few things to check which do require a nice amount of disassembley but it can be done in 5 minutes or less! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHwCBdGiD-Q&list=UUV1MzLejRJQqVuBdfP1kHHg&index=3&feature=plcp
1. What you need to check is tt belt and either replace or carefully clean with water and paper towel.
2. The motor for turntable could be bad which would need replacing
3. oil the tt motor's bearings above and below player with a sewing machine type oil
4. Oil the tt shaft and tt bearings with a tacky like oil (chainsaw bar oil will work)
5. Worst one of all unless you have the tool (synchronizer plate) is to adjust the metal drive poles underneath tt which help spin it up to 450 rpm's with the motors assistance! Tiny adjustments until its picture is correct
I can make a video of this entire process but it will take a hot minute! I do have pictures showing what to do though!
Clicking pictures makes em bigger!
The other problem of caddy not going in is quite likely a half circle black cam on the stylus arm.
What it does is stay down until stylus arm is on correct unload position and then there is a nub
that hits a metal tab which allows the cam to pop up and for you to safely unload or load a disc! That can be fixed with an adjustment on back of player or a reset of the stylus arm's position when you have top off!
I have pictures below which show the screws to remove top of player!
If you decide this is something you will attempt let me know and I will post more pictures on disassembley and a video for you! _________________ I dont own

Yep that is the turntable not getting up to speed! Good news is stylus works! Now you can make the choice of trying to repair or not! Jaws 3! _________________ I dont own

Uhm, sounds like you need a ways to go to become technically proficient on these players. No disrespect meant here, but you apparently never saw hex screws before and that's not particularly heartening.
Working on these players with a degree of ability is pretty important. It's okay of you have a junk player to experiment with and learn on, but just be aware that you may not end up wih a working player your first time out fiddling with it. |
