Hi,

When a disc is playing, it will skip about once every minute or so (when it does, it very quickly reverses and then picks up where it left off). With the cover removed, I can see the small motor (servo?) on the side activate every time the skipping problem happens. The small belt on it appears to be gripping fine. The Visual Search button only acts as sort of a fast page mode, playing the same images over and over as well. I tried a new stylus, but this didn't help. What the heck is happening?

Does your SFT100 play discs all the way through with this backward skipping issue, or does the unit just play the same minute or so of video over-and-over? The former case is often due to excessive friction in the pickup arm and servo mechanism that makes it hard for the servo motor and belt to drive it. The later case is usually caused by a malfunctioning belt, but can also be caused by a pickup arm or servo drive mechanism that is practically frozen in place due to friction. With the cover off, try moving the pickup arm forwards-and-backwards. It should move smoothly with no binding. If it is stuck, some adjustment of the arm and/or its servo mechanism will be necessary.
