The stylus cartridge needle is pretty well protected inside the pickup arm cavity, but the pickup arm itself should be immobilized. On F/G players, RCA did this with a foam insert inside the auxiliary cabinet door, while J/K players used specialized shipping tabs. With any of these players an improvised piece of foam can be cut and inserted into the player to immobilize the pickup arm.
Hitachi players shipped with a caddy-sized plastic insert inside the caddy entry door. A duplicate of this could be made from 1/8" art board cut into the shape of a CED caddy.
