Has any one ever attempted any of the experiments with the remote controls, cooling fans, or clear tops listed on these cedmagic.com pages:

http://www.cedmagic.com/tech-info/remote-control/f-g-remote.html

http://www.cedmagic.com/tech-info/remote-control/f-g-remote-install.html

http://www.cedmagic.com/tech-info/univ-remote/univ-remote.html

http://www.cedmagic.com/tech-info/400-fan-install/400-fan-install.html

http://www.cedmagic.com/misc/clear-top/clear-top.html

I would be interested in hearing how well it went, and if they were difficult.

I have done the rca tv remote to a functioning remote for sgt-250's and sjt-300's! It was very easy too!
http://www.cedmagic.com/tech-info/rca-tv-remote/rca-tv-remote.html

I have the kit for the sf/g remotes. waiting on the actual controllers to get here!

No universal remote attempt here yet!

I haven't had to do the fan install because cedatum showed us if you use contact cleaner on certain contacts, it gets rid of the problem. No fan needed and I have verified this on at least 3 sj/k 400's let alone the one I brought to the workshop that got fixed there!!!

Clear top is on the list! I really want to do that!!!

Which contacts are those that you clean so as to not need the cooling fan?

I don't have a picture but this pic can kinda help. I can point out when I am inside the player doing it but I don't know what it's actually called. I am pretty sure its what I circled in green on the pic! It has tape on it that you have to take off. You then you pull the plug off and spray the plug and the metal contacts with contact cleaner slide on and off a few times and it runs amazing after! Everyone at the workshop saw this done to my player, it was actually Howard who did it in front of us and john said yep that's the way and then explained why! So far its worked on 3 players for me too! If I ever have to do it again I will take pictures to show ya since the pictures tom has don't show it.

**update
j/K 400 player streaky or fuzzy pictures. Howard Hill at last summers workshop showed us how to separate the display and DSM board and clean a connector. The connector is J4 ( J6104 ) and in diagram it is located on the top left of the diagram. Remove the J4 plug and spray the plug and connector with a contact cleaner spray then re-insert - that's it - done !

But have you moved the green circle from where it was initially?

Looks like it's in a different place on the upper left, rather than on the right side where I think it was before. Is this diagram of the panel from being above the player looking down or looking upward at the underside of the player?

Yes because on the diagram I wasn't sure. I just remembered back left not knowing what way boards are on diagram or in tom's pic. What I initially circled looked like the ribbon cord and connector that needs cleaning. Like I said when I am inside player I can point it out!. Also he has entire board in service position but you can just clip zip ties and move the small board and do what you need to clean which led to further confusion haha sorry. I was corrected by john and made appropriate edit! If you look at tom's pic, his board is displayed just like diagram so it's looking down on the unfolded sandwich boards while entire board is in service position. I wish I had a picture, it'd be so much easier Crying or Very sad

Mission accomplished! How long did it take? Was it difficult? I can't wait to see your clear top CED player! Do you plan to install lights in it?

It took probably about an hour and a half but I was goofin around watchin a ced at the same time! It took me longer to strip the wire than the actual soldering hahaha If you can solder this is a super easy project. I do plan on installing lights on the clear top! Not sure what player to use though!

I assume you'll be doing a clear top on an SJT or SKT model, such as the one Tom used for his descriptive article on the process, correct?

Perhaps a clear top, made removable for stylus change, on an SFT or SGT would be a nice undertaking for you as it would be a new experiment. What do you think?

Yes I planned on an sj/k with toms tutorial-ish help! Oh man! An sj/k with a hinged clear top!!! Shocked

An sf/g with a clear top would be ridiculously awesome!

I have a feeling I will do all three types hinged, non hinged, and an sf/g!

I'd say pick the SFT or SGT model with the least amount of on top circuitry so the view will be less blocked by it.

I'm thinking that cutting away the top so that only a small lip is left all around the top edge, then cutting clear acrylic so that it over the lip to the edge, then polishing abd buffing the edge so it is a match to the sides and the front angle, then attaching with small removable screws that are inset so they don't jut out.

That would allow for removability so the stylus can be changed.

As I recall, some of those tops are already practically two parters, with a sort of seam running right to left about 1/3 way back from the front. That might make a natural line for a clear top to be added?

Has any one ever attempted this experiment with the British Hitachi PAL model VIP201P?
