when it comes to greasing the plastic parts on CED/laserdisc player, is any type of synthetic grease ok? i have castrol and permatex synthetic automotive grease are thes ok?

RCA provided three lubricants for CED players:

149053 Omnilube 350 Oil
149247 Rykon "O" Grease
149248 DC111 Silicone Grease

Omnilube 350 is a light machine oil containing a suspension of colloidal graphite. It is recommended for use on the turntable spindle and on the turntable and servo motor bearings in the F/G players.

Rykon grease is the reddish-colored grease commonly seen on the white stepper motor gear assembly in J/K players. It is also used on the plastic gears and pivot points in F/G players.

DC111 silicone grease is a thick translucent silicone that is safe to use at points close to electrical contacts. RCA recommended it for use in the transducer assembly in F/G players.

If a grease is synthetic, and the label states that it is approved for application to plastics, it should be OK for use on the gears of CED players, although it would be prudent to test the product on a small area at first.
