Steve Guttenberg's current Audiophiliac column is about CEDs:

The article is mosly accurate; however, I never about any discs made in Georgia. I thought they were all made in Indiana.

The article was fine, but not anything particularly special.

It pretty much followed the standard style of these types of so-called informative articles, where the author merely gleans information from other sources and piles it together in an abbreviated form with nothing original, no personal investigation nor anecdotal research done.

Very similar to the what passes for investigative consumer reporting on current local broadcast news programs, including the catchy title meant to snag one's attention. However there's nothing in the report that truly explores the premise of the title. As is the case with broadcast news consumer "investigations", it's a simple regurgitation of facts and studies done by others.

At least this author had the good sense to acknowledge the contributions of Tom and CEDmagic in the effort. If he'd been completely honest, every paragraph would have to be footnoted as essentially provided by Tom and CEDmagic.

Tom mentions the CBS Georgia CED plant on one of his old Featured CED pages.

The article wasn't bad as short little blurbs go. Doesn't contribute anything to the field, no, but at least it helps keep the memory alive in another venue.

Agreed. That's what I thought.

I don't agree completely. While it makes us feel good that somebody takes an interest in the subject of CEDs, I think an article of this type ought to answer the question it proposes. It would best be done in a way that shows personal commitment and at least a modicum of personal experience, and less use of simple gleaning of information and subsequent regugitation of that information.

This kind of article, while not plagiarism, is not far from that, and appears more like an assignment that needed to be gotten out of the way. It's really simple-minded journalism at best, and would barely rate a C grade in a college level 101 class.
