CED VideoDisc and Player Discussion

Hello,

I have some questions to you ced experts over there:

1,I am thinking for getting me a CED player, but living in the cold north, or norway as we like to say, gives me a need for source for CED players for people outside U.S. I have read the FAQ and it say to look at garage sales, thrift stores(I have really no idea what kind of shop that is, what is it?), recordshops and so on if I want a player to a nice price.
Ebay is an expensive option after what I have heard. The problem is that CED were never sold i norway so I dont think there is any luck a garage sales and antique shops. Any hints there?

2, What kind of player should I look for if I want player that is realtive cheap and easy to source parts for? CEDatum seems to have a lot of spare parts.

In norway we have 230v 50hertz mains, but there is no problem to drive ced players that use linefreq. as timebase, I have a nice device that gives out 110-120v(adjustable) 60hertz ac with a 230v input.

I'm not afraid for a player that won't work perfectley, I like to get my hands dirty.

Thrift stores accept donations from the public and then resell the donated merchandise with part of the proceeds going to charity. I imagine Norway have similar stores, but under a different name. CED Players routinely turned up in thrift stores 15 years ago, although they are a rare find nowadays. But the VideoDiscs themselves do still turn up.

Since you have a voltage/frequency converter, any U.S. CED player could be powered up. You may want to go with a stereo RCA player as these have composite video output that could be used on a TV with an NTSC input. The mono Hitachi, Sanyo, and Toshiba players also have composite output, but parts are more difficult to find for these other manufacturers.

Since shipping will be so high, you may want to avoid eBay, as you could easily wind up with a player that doesn't work. You'd be safest buying a reconditioned player from Darrell:
