Hi,
I Have a problem with my SJT-200. When I turn it on and insert a disc, the motor starts up but makes a roaring sound when it reaches full speed. The unit plays discs fine, but this roaring sound is a little irritating while your watching a movie. I thought that the turntable might need to be oiled, but I wanted everyone's opinion before I determine that that is the problem.
Thanks. |

It's normal to have a little bit of a whirring sound especially since the rotating disc does create wind effect, but not a roaring sound. It's not a scuffing or scraping sound is it? Have you tried an inspection with the cover off and playing a disc? That might give you a better clue.
It's possible I suppose that some lubing of the turtable stem may help this, but usually that causes a squeaking sound. Check this repair solution:

AS I said, a viewing of the operation with the case cover off would probably give youa better idea. You'll want to check for turntable scufffing against the case underneath it, and for turntable shimmy or wobble while in operation too. |
