|
|
Hello All...
I'm looking to purchase one of the early model RCA Selectavision VHS machine. I want one of the ones with the knobs on front...like a VBT 200 or maybe a VBT 501 (I think the 501 has the tuning knobs).
I have found some on ebay for ridiculous prices...and I finally found one that looked like it it was in good shape and only $10. I was in negotiations with the seller b/c the listing had ended before I found it. No one had bid on it and he said he still had it...and then when I told him I was about to send the money..he let me know he just sold it locally.
I was devastated by this and I really have to have one now.
I did find another one somewhere that was the Magnavox equivalent (VK8222BR5) I think...but I really wanted the RCA b/c the styling and Selectavision name matched my SFT 100.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Brock |

Thank You so much! I really appreciate it!
Oh..by the way...did you mean just the RCA VHS or both that and the original SONY BETAMAX?
Thanks!

What is this about a Sony Betamax? Are you looking for one of those too?
I actually have one of the very 1st Sony Betamax model sold in the US and even have the add-on tuner device that was a separate unit. It's a really hefty machine. |

Yeah...I am looking for both. I had went back and edited the original post but I guess it didn't take. Sorry about any confusion.
I may only be able to afford one at a time...but I am looking for both an original RCA Selectavision VHS and one of the original SONY BETAMAX (like an SL 7200 or one of the early Sony models w/ the knobs on front)...just so you know before you look.
Thanks for taking the time to reply and the time to look!

Also...do you know the difference b/t the RCA VBT 200 and the VBT 501?
They both seem to look the same from the exterior...I guess it's just a difference in the functions or features.
Here's a link to a VBT 501:

It's possible I have a Sony betamax player like you describe. There were a few of those beta "piano key" players in the shop, and some VHS ones as well. Cannot tell you more until tomorrow, though.
I won't ask much for them because the shipping will be the big cost, unless you local in Southern CA. Just enough to cover time packing I guess. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. |

Okay, I took a good look through and sorry to say, did not find any Selectavision VCRs of the model you want. I found three RCA Selectavision VCRs that were later models, that are good matches for the SJT/SKT series of players.
There were two VJP900T selectavision VCR models, one black and one silver. These are the models that are combo set-top and portable, to be used with a video camera, The tuner section stays put, and the VCR section can be lifted out of the tabletop case. When placed together, they look just like a set-top VCR.
Then I have one RCA Selectavision VCR model VJT375 that is a silver case with black facing, very nice looking like an SJT 300 or 400. This is a set-top VCR.
The above all have the SelectaVision script on them.
For Beta, there is only two Sony piano key models, the 1976 SL-7200 with tuner unit, as seen here:
http://www.cedmagic.com/history/betamax-sl-7200-1976.html
And an SL-5600, seen here:
http://www.betamaxcollectors.com/sonybetamaxmodelsl-5600.html
Then there are:
Two Sears Betavision 30006 - Oddly enough, soft touch controls with front dial knobs - don't know if made by Sony or Sanyo
One Sanyo Betacord VCR5050 - front dial knobs
One Zenith Beta JR9000W - front dial knobs
And then a whole bunch of the Sanyo/Sears early 80s top-loaders with soft-touch buttons and electronic or button style tuners. |

I already have a black RCA VHS VJP900T. For VHS I think I will wait for another VBT 200.
As far as the BETAMAX goes...I may be interested if you have an SL-7200 for sale.
Would you take a quick look at this and tell me what model this is if it is not a Sony SLO-260? It looks like the same series of BETAS...just a little more advanced than the original SL-7200.

I will check back in an hour or less.

That one is a later model with the built in tuner. SLO were the industrial models. That looks like it's comparable to either the SL-8200 or SL-8600.
The one I have has the separate tuner device from the VCR, the SL 7200, from 1976. I'd sell it if you want it, it will need belts replaced. |

| You wouldnt happen to have a pic of the tuner unit would you? I thought SL 7200 had a tuner...but just the external timer that attached to the top. |

| You're right. It's a timer, I wrongly called it a tuner. |

Yes I think I do want to purchase that unit from you. I would want a timer if you have it also. I don't know about tuning up VCR's..I will have to find someone in town that won't mind doing it for a fee...but I don't think it will be too much of a problem.
Can you still get belts for this one?
I totally let that SLO-260 slip out of my hands. I miscalculated the time auction ended and someone else sniped it. |

Okay, ley me get it out of the store room and take a photo of it for you, probably on Monday. The timer goes with it of course. It powers up, but I know it will need belts replaced. That's how they all are by this age.
Any belt you need I believe is available from SMC at:
http://www.smcelectronics.com/vcrrep.htm
And there are many other belt replacement companies if you search for electronics belts on the web, you'd just have to give them a measurement at the least.
Most of these machines seem to have between 3 and 6 belts. |
