Dear friend,

The press release is appended below, and I hope that if you're within a hundred miles of Princeton on Halloween weekend, you'll make plans to attend. This event is even more special because Sarnoff Corporation's CEO, Satyam Cherukuri, has agreed to make the Library open to school classes and the public on a regular basis if we can raise the funds to redesign and rebuild the facility to ADA requirements and professional exhibition levels. The architecture/design firm Sussna+Matz has agreed to carry out the design and is very excited about helping the remarkable stories of David Sarnoff and RCA technologies. We have already applied to the NJ Historical Commission for a project grant to help underwrite the design fee, and we will be using the proceeds from the re-enactments to cover the remainder. Read on below, and I look forward to seeing you in a month.
best,
Alex Magoun

They're back-wiggle your tentacles! Start booking your seats for Friday, October 29, or Saturday, October 30th, at 7:30 p.m. when the David Sarnoff Library reprise its stunningly successful broadcast re-enactment of Orson Welles's 1938 Halloween scare, "The War of The Worlds," in Sarnoff Corporation's Auditorium. Welles set off a national panic with a radio network broadcast using sound effects and a scripted report of Martians landing at Grover's Mill in West Windsor. These performances have been approved by Ann Koch, daughter of Howard Koch, who wrote the 1938 script. The story of attacking aliens originated with English author H. G. Wells, who wrote his classic story in 1898. Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise are currently preparing a new film version, based in Long Island.

On Friday evening, you and your family will enjoy a staged theatrical presentation of this historic broadcast, complete with 1930s microphones and sixteen radios providing surround monophonic reception from a very-low-power, two-tube amplifier. Children can compete in a Martian costume contest at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, or $25 night-of-event; children under 12, $15 in advance with $2 discount if in costume, or $17 night-of-event.

Saturday night is for those who will enjoy the same event in a fundraising evening, complete with commemorative poster and a dessert reception after the broadcast to meet the cast. Tickets are $75 and will help underwrite the costs of the redesign plan for the Library and its exhibits.

Tickets will be available at the door starting at 5:30 each day and doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Last year's event was a Standing-Room-Only, sold-out success. Seating is limited and advance reservations are strongly recommended. For more information or reservations call Jacque Rubel at (732) 422-7438.

The David Sarnoff Library, a non-profit organization incorporated as the David Sarnoff Collection, is dedicated to the understanding and promotion of electronic innovation. It holds this event to raise funds for the Library's operation and to introduce New Jersey families to the historic resources within it. Developed in association with the Institute for Arts and Humanities Education and the New Jersey Antique Radio Club, the performances promise entertainment and food for thought over the relationships between high technology, the arts, and society.

This program is made possible, in part, by funds from the New Jersey Historical Commission, Department of State, and the New Jersey Council for the Arts.
