|

Got a batch of videodiscs today.
In it was a disc with a blue cover saying CED VIDEODISC/EUROPEAN FORMAT.
For use on pal or secam ced videodisc players.
Then a label with Star Wars printed on it.
and below that says 'For engineering test and evaluation of ced videodisc system'.
Im curious as to where exactly this disc comes from and who these evaluation copies were given to.
As far as i was aware there was no UK version of star wars according to the title database. |

I got a similar disc that had that engineering test disc on. I'm not sure about the format, someone on here will know. Seems like there was a thread on here about a similar format from JaPan. _________________ 1000 titles

The generic PAL/SECAM caddies were intended to hold evaluation discs during development of the European system. Have you tried playing the disc on your PAL player to confirm it is Star Wars?
It could really be a PAL test print of Star Wars, an NTSC version of Star Wars rescued from a cracked caddy into a surplus PAL caddy, or something else entirely. The playback test, as well as reporting any numbers printed on the disc itself will provide more information.

Yep its definatly star wars playing on a pal player - i will get a pic of the cover on here.
Whats weider is there was a us copy of star wars in the batch of discs too, popped this into may player and it plays - but its not star wars - it starts by saying 'for demo only' and theres a program in german on it.
Also when sorting thru the discs when i put a duplicate of the blue lagoon with the others i noticed the caddy was white when my other copy is blue.
At the bottom of the white one is a label saying 'pal version - for evaluation purposes only'. The barcode on the back is also different. |

ive popped the caddy open and the number on the pal version of the star wars disc is 24543 38381. No barcodes or numbers on caddy.
The number on the demo disc of the unknown german programme is es-0118 - only 1 side is playable too.
The number on the Blue Lagoon that says on the case - for internal review, engineering test and evaluation. Not for public demonstration is 76476 38003
where as the barcode on the case says 76476 03003. |
