I was curious - I saw a link on the CEDMagic site showing where the various RCA facilities were located. I was bored & started checking out these sites with the Google satellite & street image search. I found the formerly RCA building on Sherman Drive and the old disc pressing plant as well, but when I looked where CEDMagic is showing the old player factory, all I see at that location is houses on one side and an empty field on the other side, which appears to have once had some kind of large building that was demolished. However, not too far from that site is a large facility, but it looks like it is too far over to have the correct street address of the player factory. So is that large facility the old player factory, or am I correct in concluding that the factory was demolished at some time?

Nobody knows the answer to this? It should be a designated historical site! Wink

The RCA and Zenith CED players were manufactured at the RCA Rogers Street plant in Bloomington, IN. This plant also made many of the RCA TV receiver models and audio. The plant was sold in the mid 2000's to Cook Pharmica, a hospital equipment maker.
Just after Cook had reopened the plant, they invited many of the old RCA employees to a special ceremonial breakfast. And many of the RCA products that were made at the plant in previous eras were on show. There was a live demo of Selectavision Videodisc.

Okay, I think I found the facility on the Google satellite view now; it's quite a huge building, if I'm looking at the correct one. I was confused, because apparently the official address is no longer on Rogers Street, although it is still off of Rogers Street. It looks as if they paved a newer street in the area, which is now the street that Cook's address is officially listed on. (Sort of like how the former RCA building on Sherman Drive now has a different block number for the mailing address, even though the building hasn't moved.) The other thing that threw me off is that it does appear that some kind of building in that area on Rogers Street was demolished, so I was under the impression that maybe that was the RCA player factory. Well, it's sure good to know that the facility is still there, just like the disc facility. The Google maps are really cool - I can get an aerial view or a street view of those factories right here in my home in Texas!
