|
|
I have only been back in this hobby for less than a month, and I already have 5 different players! Many of yu have been into them for years. How many players do you have? Are you selling them, or keeping them for parts or?????? I plan to fix 3 of my 5 up and sell them. I'm not wanting to make a bunch of money on them, more people getting into them would be more people coming in here talking ab out them:). Anyway, how many players do you have?? _________________ 1000 titles

Dean,
Can you explain the difference in the SKT400 & SJT400? _________________ 1000 titles

| There isn't any difference between the two types as far as function goes. The SKT model is the newer of the two. The difference is that some of the electronic components are either different or may have been removed to simplify the player. Less components that can fail maybe. |

| I have had 23 players since 2000. I have repaired and sold all but six and will probablly sell off all but two. I'll keep my SJT-400 and Hitachi made Sears player. My first player was a Sears player that I bought in 1982. During those CED years from 1982 until 1984 I bought over two hundred movies. When RCA made the anouncement they were halting production on players I sold everything to a friend of mine at a substantial loss. I then immediatly bought a laser disc player and supported that format until 1998. I mainly use my CED player to watch the old black and white classics. |

I bought my first player (sgt250) in 1982 also. I had about 30-40 movies. my player stopped working and I sold it and all the movies for 10 bucks each. It was early in 1984 and some of the small towns were still selling the movies pretty good. I love to old classics too. I got Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Mildred Pierce & Dark Victory from Jays Recycling still in the original wrapping. I bought 50 movies from a guy that came with his player. When you buy a bunch of movies like that, you get so many that don't play well. I got Friday the 13th, and it played like new!!! I was so excited. _________________ 1000 titles

| Hey, everyone - it's been a while.....I'm down to one player now, but I've owned a total of 7 in my lifetime. Growing up, we had an SFT-100 in the house, which my parents eventually let me have. Then my grandfather gave me his SFT-100 and all of his videodiscs (a HUGE collection, but mostly movies that I wasn't interested in). After both players kicked the bucket, I purchased an SGT-200 at a garage sale, but shortly after, our neighborhood was badly flooded, ruining all of the CEDs and the player (I attempted to salvage some of the discs, but the mud just would not come out of the grooves). Losing my entire collection (which ended up being burned at a temporary dump for flood debris), I switched to laserdisc, but eventually started collecting CEDs again. I got a Montgomery Ward (Toshiba) player from a thrift store, but it had severe problems, so I went again to the thrift stores and found a Zenith VP-2000, which worked for years. Later, I bought a Sears (RCA) player on eBay, but it had problems, and the Zenith started giving me problems. So I finally bought a junk SGT-250, rebuilt it, using parts from the Sears & Zenith players, and that's the player that I currently use for watching CEDs. |

Wow! I bet it hurt to throw your collection into the fire:( I remeber when my player quit working, about the same time as RCA made the infamous statement that they were going to pull the plug on the players. My heart was broken, I LOVED collecting the movies. I always loved collecting Records too! I just didn't care for Tapes, audio or later video. I have some VHS players, yes, but if you wanted to watch movies, they hou had to. Anyway, when I found this sight, and someone invited me to come here, and i fell in love all over again.! tried to get into fixing and selling the players. It caused too pain, so I had to give it up. I'm still going to sell some of the movies though, withougt going through ebay. Just here and another coupld of sites. I amI want to just hve 2 players:
