Hello again, I still haven't gotten any one on on my case to help fix this SJT-090 I have. The problems I'm having with it have sorta' changed. I have replaced the loading belt. All that happens now is that "--" appears on the display when I have it on and off. If I mess around with the gears, I can get the loading mechanism to continually run in one direction when the player is on, then in the opposite direction when the player is off. Help! -Videodiscer

Your gear has got to be replaced! You sent me a picture of the gear, but I had trouble loading it. However, I know of this gear. Under the top cover of the disc player, there should be a schematic and a parts list. The stepper gear is the big, white gear (should be white, may be brown or tan due to age). If you have the player facing towards you, it will be the last gear on your right with a rod connected to it. If the rod is not connected to it, then you are going to have problems. The "peg" that the rod sits in as the gear turns is actually responsible for flipping switches set close by to trigger the player to do what it is supposed to do. If I had a player of your kind, I'd take a picture of it and show you. I can't actually find a J/K player anywhere other than ebay and we all know how hard it is to bid on ebay!

If I had a spare, I'd send it to you free of charge but I don't. And the guy I contacted said he used every available part off the 10 SJT-090s he had and recycled the rest. I tried. It is not uncommon for that gear to break...especially on the J & K line of 090 units as they were mostly used as rental systems so they probably seen alot of abuse during their lifetime.
You have a friend here wanting to help, but I'm out of resources and my players are belt driven, manual loading. If I CAN find a player like yours, I'll send you the gear whether the player works or not and I'll just simply replace it when I can.

Check out the links at CED Magic. You may find someone there with that gear. Don't lose interest...you'll get it.

Keep those CEDs playing!

I'll make you a deal...if you are willing to send me your player and pay for the shipping charges of getting it to me, I'll buy the part and replace it for you. I can be trusted...this is what I do. I plan on starting an internet based small business servicing and selling these players in the near future anyway. I won't charge you a dime! And I'll pay for the shipping back to you. Your player will be completely cleaned and tested before I ship it back to you...I'll even throw in a 90-day warrenty for the work I perform...how's that sound? If you are interested then email me. I want to help.

Very Happy Mnallard, you're a God! Thanks for your enthusiasm and generous offer. But, I have already replaced the gear with a make-shift part I made from the old one. It has held up so far. So, the problem now is not the gear, it's something else. I'm thinking by now it might be something electrical. I'm not an electronics wiz, but I don't see any physical evidence that there's a problem in the mechanics of the machine. Any other suggestions? -VD
