| Hi, I just purchased a non-working Toshiba model number VP100 at a garage sale today with a bunch of movie. I was wondering If you all could set me in the right direction as to how to go about fixing it. It turns on, but does nothing else. I also received 24 movie "disc" along with it. Several of them are big titles like Star Wars: A New Hope, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Poltergeist, and Casablanca, just to name a few. So I thank you all in advance for helping me. Also, If i were to sell these to an aficionado, how much do you think I could get for the whole lot? I will post a complete list up later. |

bossman, welcome to the club!
The first things to look at are the belts (3) and the stylus. Open the player cabinet and check for a stylus. Usually on non-working players a lot of the time it is a bad stylus and belts that fail. Check the CEDmagic website, under "Technical" for the belt locations and stylus. CEDmagic also sells the belts at a very reasonable price (see section "Products").
Your player takes either an RCA 149000 or a 154100 stylus should work. If you need to repair or replace your stylus, you can contact CEDatum or CEDpro. CEDpro may have some replacements and CEDatum can repair your stylus, at minimum, CEDatum can inspect and clean your stylus. You can find them in the "Classifieds" section of the CEDmagic website.
This is the usual starting point for most buyers of used non-working players. Let the forum know how your player is doing and keep asking questions.
Good luck and thanks for joining the club!

Hi Bossman, welcome to our little family!!! We have a large time here, and a passion for this format. DeanJeep knows a lot about these players. I buy RCA ones, and repair them, unless it is a big problem. I can replace the belts, change the stylus, and clean them up. I wish you the best with your new (to you) player. I will tell you that, if that one ends up unfixable, I will hve an SJT250 stero model ready to put on Ebay in 2 weeks. The SGT250 is recommened by our fearless leader here on this site, simply because it is a tough player, and you can fix it up pretty easily. If you decide to get a stereo model with remote control, shoot me an email @ Beetlescott@msn.com, be sure to write CED in the subject line so the junk peeps don't get it!!!
Good Luck!

Bossman,
The SGT250 is a great player, built like a tank and has the added benefit of having a 5 function remote control. There are only 3 players outside of the 400 player models that have a wireless remote control, the SGT250 and the SJT/SKT 300 models. Check them out at CEDmagic.
Good luck on your Toshiba, they are harder to find and I don't know if there is a much information on them. If you start collecting some players, this would be an interesting addition to a collection.

Bossman,
Your Toshiba player came with a wired remote control. I would imagine that this remote will be very hard to find. I have never seen one for sale on ebay.
The RCA SGT250 and SJT/SKT 300 players, and the 400 players all came with wireless remote controls. There are some Hitachi players that came with a wired remote control. I had a Realistic CED1 (made by Hitachi) and it had a wired remote control. That cable must have been about 25 feet long. I never used it for fear of someone tripping over the cable.
Hey, great start on your new collection! Keep collecting those discs!

Bossman,
Contact CEDatum at the following:
E-Mail: cedatum@ccrtc.com or visit website: www.cedatum.net
or you can call John at CEDatum at: 317-996-3906
Did you find the stylus in your player? It would be located at the back of the player in the silver box. There should be a wire clamp holding a flip door closed.
Good luck! |

Yes, John at CEDatum is the best. I sent him 2 styli, to be repaired, fully expecting to have to pay for rebuilds. He said they only needed to be cleaned!!! 17 bucks! I am very pleased with CEDatum!!! _________________ 1000 titles
