Hello and Merry Christmas
I am happy to report that I now have all 3 CED players working rather well.
You may recall from an earlier posting that I purchased a Sears and two RCA players.
A kindly person from this site sent instructions on how to repair the Sears. Sorry to disappoint, but I took it to the local repair guy. He fixed it for $40, a win-win situation, as I most likely would not have gotten it right. He said he replaced two belts. He said one belt was hanging and the other was in bad shape. I think there is actually 3 belts if I remember right, but it seems to work well now. I like the Sears unit, as it has RCA outputs and has a monitor on the front. I understand this unit was made by Hitachi.
Both RCAs are sluggish with regard to the load and unload, so I take the cover off, and turn the bottom wheel if it gets stuck. I believe the diagnosis is a belt.
With 3 players working, and an additional cartridge for each player, I can watch CEDs for the rest of my life! I know a lot of you have multiple players, but I have had any until recently.
Bye,
Bruce |

| Excellent! Nothing wrong with letting someone work on the player if they know what they're doing. Glad that the Hitachi/Sears is working now. As far as the SKT-100's, it sounds like a belt issue, but since I every SJT/SKT player that I ever had was totally screwed up, I never messed with trying to fix the loader (why fix the loader the turntable and pickup arm are moving at random and the LEDs are flashing like crazy?), so I don't know if a sluggish loader is caused by a weak belt, lack of lubrication, weak motor, etc. But there are plenty of people who should know. |
