Hello All:

The death of President Reagan certainly brings back memories of the CED era. I've been watching the news coverage, which has been practically non-stop video (but little original audio) of Ronald Reagan as president. One of the defining events of the early 1980's was the attempted killing of the president, and that was only a week after RCA introduced the CED system in March 1981:

Despite having been in about 60 movies, Ronald Reagan appears in only one CED movie, "Dark Victory." His first scene starts a little over four minutes into Side 1, and he appears in a picture on the reverse caddy of the RCA version.

My favorite Reagan movie is the World War II "Desperate Journey," which unlike most other movies made about the war during the war manages to be both serious and humorous, with a particularly good scene of Reagan hoodwinking a Nazi officer. It's a little surprising that this didn't come out on CED as a number of movies of co-star Errol Flynn from this time frame are available. Perhaps they'll finally get around to releasing it on DVD.

Did Ronald Reagan appear in any movies on CED while he was president? Im thinking of something like that Contact flick where Bill Clinton was talking about UFOs made out to tie in to the movie.

I can't think of any appearances by Ronald Reagan on CED movies made in the early 1980s, and there aren't any listed in the IMDb.

But there is the humorous reference in "Back to the Future" where Doc Brown asks Marty McFly who's president in 1985, and doesn't believe the answer until he sees the camcorder commenting "no wonder your president has to be an actor - he's got to look good on television."
