I've often wondered how CEDers are finding used CED players today at thrift stores and flea markets. Previously, I always thought yea they probably did in like 1994 or earlier. But after 4 months of searching, I purchased 2 players at an antique store for $40. Both had discs stuck in them and were clearly marked that way.
The SFT-100 manufactured in 4/81 was complete with stylus. Its problem was with the alignment of the left cam under the turntable. It needed to be adjusted downward to engage the turntable motor to spin. I tested it first by pushing in on the switch it engages with a long cotton swab. The cams directly to the left of the function lever also needed to be adjusted to turn off the unit properly without having to push up real hard on the lever.
The SJT-400 was complete with stylus, no remote. It made a loud noise when turned on from the left rear. The function motor belt had disinigrated and hardened belt residue was all over the function gears. I removed the gears and used acetone to clean them. Reminded me of removing belt goo from Akai 8 track pulleys - but that is another hobby. Replaced belt and tightened bottom panel screw with 1/2 inch socket as if this is loose you will hear another screaching type sound.
And the best part was that after going through 100 used CEDs, I found the 3 used Playboy collection CEDs. They were not cheap at $45 in total. The guys at the counter could not keep their eyes off them as I explained to them a little bit about CED players. I have a feeling they think they think I am "nuts" for buying broken players and spending $85.
Good luck on your next search - the thrill of the chase.

Nice find! I almost never find anything in my area. I did pick up a few at a local junk store recently though. Very Happy

Yeah, I forgot about antique stores. I've never actually seen a CED player at an antique store myself, but I've seen quite discs at antique stores. And I guess you're right in a way about the thrift stores and flea markets - I don't see them as often now as I used to, but when I say "used to", I'm only talking about three or four years ago - but a couple of thrift stores in my area still have some CED discs in their record pile. I guess the chances of finding CED products in such places really depends a lot on your locality. And for those of you still looking: if you really want one, don't give up. I felt hopeless at times trying to find a player, then I ended up coming across about a half a dozen of them here and there, sometimes in the wierdest places. One day I went with a friend of mine to his mom's house, and she had an SGT-200 just sitting in the garage, with a good stylus, and she said she'd sell it to me for $2. What a steal! Just keep looking.
