|
|
Hi all, I have an older F/G style RCA machine that exhibits a peculiar problem.
After pushing the manual lever down, then load the disc, pull out the caddy, then flip up the lever to the Play position, the platter always spins up but…sometimes it will begin to play a movie but sometimes it will just be a blank screen with no video, no sound. Eventually, flipping the lever up and down and up and down and even up and down again, it will begin to finally play the movie. (video and sound) Once it’s running, it plays all the way through the disc no problem. (it’s only when you first start each side. As far as I know the cartridge is in good shape.
Anyone ever heard of this problem with an F/G player?
Thanks, Kit |

i hate to sound like a broken record, but the first thing I would do is have the stylus cleaned and inspected.Second advice would be double check (or check if you've never done so) to make sure the disc and caddy are in good shape and clean ,as in maybe some debris got in the caddy with the disc and then that debris makes it's way into the player. To me I would say it's a stylus problem.I've had times I'm just making an adjustment or whatever of a small variable capacitor or something, very minor tweak and then have video start playing poorly and the stylus check was out of alignment or something. |

On the back of the player there is a small hole with a set screw inside. This will adjust the point where the stylus sets down. It appears to be setting down too early on a non-playable portion of the disc edge. Adjust the screw so that it sets down further into the disc. That should resolve your issue. |
