Years ago, Tom Howe wrote about the unused sides of CEDs on the F.A.Q. page, and how there may be something recorded on them. Yesterday, I found a very brief You Tube video actually showing programming on one of the single-sided discs. It's peculiar because all of the CEDs that I own, which only have content on side 1, show nothing but a dark screen when I try to play them, although this video comes from a CED title that I don't own.

The video is somewhat similar to what is on the unused side of a laser disc, and it is most likely the shortest amount of content on any side of a CED.

Yeah for some reason on the PAL discs they would put an image like that which says "No program this side" or something similar. But on NTSC disc they just have DAXI code to tell the player that the side is empty and to reject the disc. So you won't actually see anything on screen. A side note on this, a former RCA employee posted once that there is actual some information stored at the very beginning of the disc that the player does not display but they had a special modified player at the factory that could read and display that code and it would tell what the title was and other information like that. He said the guys were screwing around one time and wrote something funny on it. Shenanigan's, lol.
