My player isn't opening the door to load. I THINK.
I have to go in, scapel, sponge...

So I finally got it out of it's cabinet and removed the lid.
I got the caddy to go in but it never unloaded and the caddy is stuck in there.
I tried to eject it and the motor(s) just kept whirring, finally had to unplug it.
What do I do?
And before I forget again, SJT 300.
Gee whiz it says so inside too. _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

The stuck caddy is the Rush: Exit Stage Left I mentioned in an earlier thread.
The entire caddy is in there but nothing was extracted, it's just stuck. _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

It sounds like the function drive belt has failed. It usually has turned to sticky goo if it is the original factory belt. _________________ Sears 934.54780150 & 934.54810350

That's just it, Josh/ketonic dude GAVE it to me and it was A-OK playing TRON last spring was it? Think he serviced it before giving it to me.
Tried getting ahold of him my email a couple times but I'm simply not signing up for Facebook and it doesn't look like it was much more than chatting with some links maybe.
Tony Fleetwood, Josh and a number of folks whose names I don't quite recognize to tie to IDs here. _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

Since I have an entire caddy jammed in there all the way it's harder to look at that unitl I free it. SAFELY.
Some may recall that I had to break Whose Life Is It Anyway? prior to sending the 090 to Rixrex that was going to be Frankenteined for stereo and then Rix got in that wreck and he just disappeared...
No, I was thinking a gear wasn't in position and I tried jogging a couple of them. Not much success.
I'm going to have to dig about the forum. Not a lot of time lately.
There is/was a 'sealed' copy of We're All Devo on eBay this week but $40 is too much andnot when I don't even have a working player. My bucket is full right now and Christmas is on the way. _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

You mentioned "We're All Devo" which made me check my inventory. Would you believe that I have a copy on CED, laserdisc and VHS media?
Be careful hand moving the internal gearing as you can easily break the transfer rod coupling when you turn the player on. I ran through 3 couplings on an SJT-200 before I got it right.
Do you have a function motor drive belt? If not, send me your address to etd607 at yahoo dot com and I will send you one. (I sent a request for some belts to Tom once and it took 6 weeks before I got them. I don't think you want to wait that long.) _________________ Sears 934.54780150 & 934.54810350

That's at the back, isn't it? I have to take the lid back off and look, I put it back on so as not to lose the screws and get it off the bed and out of my cat's way.
I'm not a pack rat, mind you, I just have three racks of equipment and a 19" Trinitron up front and a CRT projector in back next to my bed on a converted old dresser with wheels along with an audio timer and small receiver I use for an alarm clock and rear channel amp.
It's bust all through the house like that. I love my gear. _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

if a disc is stuck in there you should be able to manually index the geartrain in reverse to have it remove the disc _________________ (2)Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350), sft100, sgt250, sjt 090-400, vp550, VDR3000, VP2000 & 4000

The caddy has a seam split. Has happened to me many times. It will not release the caddy. |

Okay, now the question is how do I do that?
Assume I just woke up a while ago (I did) and that I'm a bit wary about poking about when I just messed something up (and I did that too) plus I was already told not to fiddle with the gears so much (and a pair of pliers doesn't sound like they would be of use to tug it out plus it's a really uncommon title and one of my all-time favorite bands). _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

I don't think so, this is Rush Exit Stage Left, the Billy Joel Live In NYC disc has one and I taped it shut but I didn't insert it.
How do you get one like that out if so? _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

if you want the machine to work manually, you have to be the machine. so you have to disconnect the belt from the geartrain on the back left side and manually run it until it kicks the transfer rod up and allows you to slide the caddy in to remove the disc. think of your hand turning the geartrain being the manual override. _________________ (2)Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350), sft100, sgt250, sjt 090-400, vp550, VDR3000, VP2000 & 4000

I'll have to send you an email with a picture or two...it's ALL the way in and nothing is engaged to remove the disc that I could immediately tell. The caddy is completely inside. _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

I'm clueless as to how to find them, I can't seem to get hits on the site.
I'll have to use Google. _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

Good gravy! I've never seen so many pages of flowcharts! I printed the whole thing, reloaded paper twce and it's 51 pages (can't do double-sided prints) and I didn't see how to just print odd them even pages to get both sides without a hassle. _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR!

You got only 51 pages? I have the original copy and it is 70 pages. (You must have gotten the reader's digest version)
Maybe Tom should set up a place on this forum for scanned copies of service manuals and operating manuals. (I have the original operating manuals for Hitachi models VIP2000, VIP201P/VIP202P, and VIP1000. I also have the operating manuals for the Realistic CED-1 and the Sears 934.54780150.)
How about it Tom. _________________ Sears 934.54780150 & 934.54810350

Often there are blank separator pages between sections or just pages that say left blank for user notes in manuals, some editing was probably done.
There were at least a dozen flowcharts at the end...I don't see that often.
I'll return to this after I've done some other important things in and out of the house. _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

Long hiatus but I'll go over the manual and this thread over this weekend and see what I can do. Just had a lot of fall cleaning and monthly bill stuff, shopping to do. _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

Wow, that was a lot to take in but here I go. First off, sorry I don't get on here much anymore I apologize for my late response.
Next, as far as your player goes I hope you got it fixed by now. I've had that happen before when corner tabs are broken off. will it let you slide the caddy back out manually and leave the disc and spine in there. If so It should cause it to drop and engage and then you can just hit reject. If not you'll have to do like Tony said and manually back it out.
Lasty, Tom can't post manuals here because it is Copyright infringement and he can get sued. Sam's Photofact's owns the rights to all the old RCA Manuals. They are all available for purchase through Sam's if you wish. But usually you can just post here what you are looking for and someone may have it for you. I know I'd like to get copies of several of those ones you mentioned.
I'll try to check back more often, sorry again. |

I've been building 4 bicycles for my sister's family and I've had back problems that kept me from lifting heavier things for a while so I put it aside. I'll get back to it ASAP.
Fighting off the spammers was a bigger issue. I've seen trolls and spammers take over newsgroups and sites more than a few times in 20 years... _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |
