Hello. I've been interested in CED for a while now and really want to 'Embark' on this journey.
Local power supply in my sub-Australian country is 240V 50Hz. This puts me in the PAL region of players, but do have the resources to build a 60Hz inverter or modify an existing player (ideally ones that use internal reference clocks as opposed to Line Freq. Sync.)
My options are going to be mostly Hitachi VIPXXX series from the UK. These also seem to be reasonably priced and somewhat well documented. There's a couple listed on Ebay UK, Not working... What is the general opinion of these players? Here's a link

"The player powers up and loads the disc ok but it hovers over the disc for about a minute then returns to the start position there also is no image on the TV or sound.
The stylus is in its place maybe worn out I don't know"
Is this an example of a generic problem or something to be avoided completely?
I have mailing addresses in both the US and the UK making shipping somewhat bearable.
Thanks for the time.
Craig. |

i have heard of this problem with this chassis of player, and i have one with this symptom. i have heard a few different things that it could be, anything from a bad board, to an optical eye out of alignment, but i lack the service data for these players as of this moment, but there is a .pdf version of the american version sears/ hitachi player... if you buy a pal player the plug end most likely will have to be changed or adapted since in australia the plugs are different than in the UK _________________ Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350),sft100,sgt250,sjt090,100,101,200,300,400,vp550, VP4000!

| You could actually go with either PAL or NTSC. I would assume PAL would be easier since you most likely have a PAL TV and would only need an adaptor for the power cord since you are already 220v 50hz. But if you wanted to run a NTSC player you would just need a step down converter from 220v to 110v and as long as you get a player like a SJT200 up to SJT400 they can run on both 50hz and 60hz. You would also need a PAL to NTSC video converter which can be purchased for about $12 on ebay or other electronics websites. There is a much wider NTSC selection of discs, about 1700 compared to only about 273 PAL titles. But you have to factor in shipping costs as well. Not sure which would be cheaper for you. |
