CED VideoDisc and Player Discussion

I would like know the temperature range that CED's can be stored at. I just acquired about 200+ CED's in very good condition and would like to store them on my unheated porch. During the summer, the porch rarely gets above 80F. It's the winters that concern me. The porch can go down to about 20F. The CED's would be stored in boxes on a shelf unit. Obviously, I would need to bring a CED that I want to play into the house and allow it to warm up before playing it.

Any thoughts on this?

i have had discs delivered to me that have sat basically in snow and after letting them warm up they were fine. but i would think long term storage in such a condition could cause the discs to become brittle or the labels may start to fade or decay from sunlight, i have a lot of my extras stored in my garage and it usually doesnt get below 35 in there and i have been meaning to check the discs to see if they are okay, but i think they are fine...

in the cold i would think the lube on the disc might stiffen enought to cause skipping etc.
like an LP record storing at room temp on their edges is best.

I also store discs in my garage, which is attached to the house and never gets below freezing. When they get cold the discs do get brittle but as long as you aren't moving them around in those cold temperatures it should be ok. The only concern I have is if you are taking them in and out during those cold temperatures they can condensate on the caddy which can cause bubbling or fading of the label. But if you are just storing them out there and not moving them I would think they should be fine. Would be a good On Golden Pond experiment, to test the affects of cold temperatures on a disc. Maybe this winter I will have to try that.
