I have an SJT-200 player that will not play a CED. When you insert the disc in its caddy, the player pulls the caddy in and then ejects the caddy without pulling the disc out of it. In reading some info on the CEDmagic web site, it looks like the function motor drive belt maybe slipping. (The drive belt was replaced many years ago so it is not the original RCA belt.)

Any ideas?

is it only with that one caddy? i have had a disc new in cello not get taken by a j/k player. some of the early releases can get hung up or wont work in an auto loader either. also there are the rollers that you can clean with some alcohol i think and maybe they will grip better, i have heard josh talk about it but i havent had that problem yet

I cannot say if it is only that one caddy. In the past, this player took in 3 discs and did not unload them into their respective caddies. The result was that there were 3 discs stacked on the turntable. How the motor was able to spin all 3 is a wonder. I had to manually remove the discs and reinsert them back into their correct caddies. I was going to order some function drive belts off CEDatum when I remembered this player's antics.

Also, I just received an SJT-400 player that the previous owner had replaced the belt with a rubber band. He said that it worked. Anyway, I was going to order 3 belts. One for the 400, one for the 200 and one for a spare. I guess changing the belt on the 200 cannot hurt anything. Thanks for your input.

if it takes the disc out of the caddy, but wont put it back in the caddy, something is wrong with the transfer rod. either its not being actuated, or its being hung up

I am not sure what to make of this. I loaded a CED and it did not take the disc out of its caddy. I tried again and this time I gave the end of the caddy a little push and it extracted the disc as it should. I allowed it to play for 1 minute and then unloaded the disc and it worked as it should with no assistance from me. I then noticed what looked like a rubber band end in the load slot. I pulled on it and it came out. It is the width of a shoe string and is a little over 13 inches long. It has the feel of a rubberized string. I retried loading a CED and the player worked normally and started playing. I removed the disc and reinserted it again and it worked okay. Where the string came from is unknown. It may have been inside a caddy and got into the player and was interfering with the loading of discs. Go figure.

I really need to keep some sort of maintenance log for each of my players. The last work done on the SJT-200 was replacement of the transfer rod coupling. I just don't remember when I did the work.

Here are 2 photos of the "string":

The first one is of it on a yardstiick to give a length of it. The second one is of the end of the string to show what it looks like (sorry that the photo is not that good.)

I have had the player opened in the past and I do not remember anything looking like the "string".

PS
I still have not figured out how to get images in my posts. Can anybody give me a clue?

I thought about that possibility. If it is a felt strip, it must gotten stretched. A caddy is 12.75 inches wide and the "string" is 13.25 inches. I could check each CED's caddy for a missing strip; but, it could take a while. I would have 185 to check if I wanted to do it.

Almost 2 weeks ago, I picked up a collection of CED's and a player from a guy about 25 miles from me. He told me that his last child had started college so he wanted to let someone take the collection. The player is an SJT-400: the holy grail for us hobbyists. The CED's number 233 with 29 being duplicates to my collection. I now have 5 of the interactive games:

A Week at the Races
Murder, Anyone?
The Entertainment Game
Many Road to Murder and
The DisneyDisc of Mystery and Magic.

I have 5 copies of The Empire Strikes Back with 1 of them still in cellophane. I also have 5 copies of the RCA Videodisc Preview Album with 1 of them in cellophane, too. There is even a CED labeled The $19.98 Preview Videodisc. The rest of the CED's are of many different genres from Disney to the Holocaust (4 disc set.) Amazing.

hate to cause concern but you might wana find that one without the felt strip, cause if you try to play it the next time and it doesnt have that strip in it, the disc could possibly maybe be damaged by the caddy. plus if only one strip fell out, the other one isnt far behind...

Thanks for raining on my parade (lol). Thankfully, the lot of discs that I just got have not been integrated into my old collection. This should make locating the bad caddy easier. I maybe lucky and have a duplicate in the new lot to replace the disc with the bad caddy.
