It's been a while since I've posted here.
First, I had acquired an SKT-400. Got it up and running after just some minor work. It will need some parts, however, but I've sent an e-mail to CEDAtum.
Second is a rare player sighting on YouTube; a Zenith VP-4000. It's a stereo model that appears to have been made by Toshiba.

Nice find on the skt-400! Also that vp4000 video is mine! The player is essentially a vp550 (toshiba) clone! _________________ I dont own

Thank you, though I'd say that your stereo Zenith is an even more impressive find, especially as it appears to be in extraordinarily excellent condition.
Speaking of Toshiba, I'd love to find a stereo model of that brand. I wonder how your particular player is with picture quality.
IMO, the CED player with the best image quality I've seen has been the Hitachi VIP-2000R; the thing I notice with CED is that the edges have what appears to be dot crawl, but the VIP-2000R appears to have a smoother image. Unfortunately, the one I've got had some problems so now it's in my closet as a parts unit. Now I just need to find another one.
In the meantime, when I get the SKT-400 properly fixed up, it will replace my SGT-250 as my main player in my entertainment system. |

were you able to get the remote specific to the k400, or is it the universal command remote? _________________ (2)Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350), sft100, sgt250, sjt 090-400, vp550, VDR3000, VP2000 & 4000

It's the one specific to the 400; The SelectaVision Random Access Control Center.
However, it may be the older version of the remote as the REJECT key doesn't use the typical EJECT symbol.
The remote also had its own original box. |

thats interesting! the k-400 should have a more modern key pad, unlike the j-400, can you use the serial number to decode what time it was made? maybe its an early k-400?
The 9 digit number is found on the serial number label on the back panel of the player and also inside on the front or side of the chassis.
The first digit is the year. 1980- 1984. Example a 2 is 1982.
The second and third digits are the week. Example 14 - a week in March
The fourth digit is the day of the week - Sunday = 1
The fifth digit is the player production line - a 1 or 2 or 3.
The remaining 4 digits are the player ID number
Serial number example: 213231905 This player was made in 1982, 13th week on a Monday on line 3 and the ID is 1905. _________________ (2)Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350), sft100, sgt250, sjt 090-400, vp550, VDR3000, VP2000 & 4000

So, according to your information, my SKT-400 was made on production line 1 on April 10, 1984. (15th week of 1984 on a Tuesday)
I wonder when the last SJT-400 was made.
Indeed, I wonder exactly when RCA canceled player production; I had heard it was some time in 1984 that they stopped making them.
And, on the original carton the player came in, there is a sticker identifying where the player was shipped from (D&SPD Family Stores, 2000 Clemens Bridge Road, Deptford, NJ. 08096) as well as where it was shipped to, which may also have been where it was sold from (RCA Family Store at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, room 761, in New York City, possibly sold to a fellow named Ray Meyer as that's the name it says it was going to). |

I've seen it. I was very surprised at the existence of such a machine, a Toshiba built model from Zenith.
The only Zenith I had come across was the VP-2000.

The VP4000's came from a gentleman in Nebraska who's mother owned a Zenith dealership. Zenith had sent them those players as models or samples of some sort. The guy said he bought one from the shop and after the program got canceled she gave him the other one. The one that Ryan has still has the original box, all the paperwork, and most importantly...the original remote. It was quite the find indeed and I couldn't think of two better people to own such beautiful machines. |
