I just heard John Clemens passed away this week.

http://www.cedmagic.com/mem/whos-who/clemens-jon.html

By all accounts he was the #1 brain behind its development.

A quick search turned up this obit - http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/thereporteronline/obituary.aspx?n=jon-k-clemens&pid=173803169

I think Tom should leave condolences on behalf of our site and forums and attend his service if he can.

We all owe him our deepest gratitude.

RIP to a good man! Its hard to describe how you feel when you don't know someone, but know you owe everything about your hobby because of them!

Yes, Jon Clemens is truly the Father of the CED. And after the introduction of the system he continued development work on CED throughout its market life and also researched the possible use of CED for computer mass data storage. Had his next generation interactive player been introduced, it would have had a memory buffer allowing for a good freeze-frame with the stylus lifted from the disc.

Here is Dr. Clemens on October 11, 1981 demonstrating a prototype interactive player that became the SJT400 two years later.

Great info Tom! It's crazy how the player looks like a mix between and f/g 100/200 and a 250!
