The Rainbow Room restaurant/dance venue on the 65th floor of the RCA Building re-opens tomorrow after being closed in the wake of the 2008 economic meltdown.
The RCA Building doesn't actually go by that name anymore, as GE renamed it in 1988 and replaced the fifty-year-standing RCA logo with a GE logo. But it's still commonly called the RCA Building by New York residents.
RCA CEO David Sarnoff had his offices on the 53rd floor, and it was on the 49th floor of this building where the first demonstration of the CED system to the technology press took place on March 19, 1975. It was also here on February 25, 1981 that the RCA VideoDisc was first shown via closed-circuit television to 14,000 RCA dealers. The presentation, which originated in NBC Studio 8H, was a preview of the company's market introduction plans for the system. A live audience of more than 400 attended. Participating were RCA Chairman Edgar H. Griffiths; Executive Vice Presidents Roy Pollack and Herbert Schlosser; and Group Vice President Jack Sauter. Tom Brokaw of NBC's Today Show was host (presentation starts at 3:30):

The RCA/GE Building is now being re-named the Comcast Building with a combo Comcast/NBC Peacock logo on top. New Yorkers appear to be negative to indifferent on the change:

The dismantling of the large GE logo took place last week:
