Hi, I just got 2 decks back on memorial day. A SGT100 and a SJT200W. The SJT200 was running great hooked up via Composite but then the sound cut out and never came back. I had been watching Wrath of Kahn a stereo CED, so I tried one of the Mono CEDs I had with the same result. I had thought after reading about common problems with the J series that it was the 2 FM Demodulator ICs but I just hooked it up via the coax RF modulator and it has sound. Could there be an issue with the RCA jacks? Maybe a bad lead? Any suggestions as what to look for would be great. Thanks.

The rf demodulator is working which is why the rf connection works. Lucky for you since the rf modulator parts are not cheap compared to the fm demodulators and other simple ic's. The rca component jacks are connected to the fm demodulators. One or both has gone bad and maybe more Sad It is possible one of the connections has broke that connects to the rca plugs but not likely as both would have to break to have no sound, not impossible, but very, very unlikely. The only way to tell now is to put your player in servicing position and start checking the voltages on the fm demodulators first, then moving on to other ic's if both check out fine. Do you have a dual audio disc like jane fondas workout? Do you have a multimeter? Do you have a service manual?

I opened it up yesterday and tested the 2 FM Demod ICs, all the pins except for 4 which isn't connected seemed to pass voltage from 2.5v - 5v except for the power supply pin which read around 12v. I'm not quite sure what I should be looking for if those aren't the problem. I don't have the service manual or a dual audio disc.
