They say it WORKS but it probably needs a retip in my opinion.

The BIN is nice though...

I have rearranged some of my bills to give me enough money to buy this player. It sure looks nice and well cared for. Two things I am going to do when it arrives: 1) Replace the 2 internal rubber belts and 2) send the stylus to CEDatum for cleaning and evaluation.

Now I feel SO guilty (lol).

This player came yesterday. It was double boxed and looks in very fine shape. The seller did what I wanted in that he cut a piece of cardboard and inserted it into the disc caddy slot. This was an effort to protect the internal parts. Today, I will be doing some testing. Also, the player came with a copy of the Stereo Demo Disc.

I tested the player today and if works very well. I played the Stereo Demo Disc using the original stylus and it played fine. I changed the stylus with one that I had CEDatum evaluate (A- grade). I could not tell any difference between the two. Anyway, I will be sending the original stylus to CEDatum for evaluation/cleaning soon.

I have a winner!!!

Thank you for your note to the seller. He or she surely knows how to make a buyer happy. The player is being put in rack below the CED player that I bought in 1983. Below it will be an RCA SJT-200 that I am currently repairing (the transfer rod coupling broke).

I have another 934...150 player that needs some work. When you insert a disk, the top and bottom of the caddy slot scape the label on the caddy. I think that something with a lot of weight was placed on this player causing the top to be bowed downward. I am going to try to reverse the damage by inverting the top and putting a weight on it. We will see what happens.

I had sent the stylus to CEDatum for an evaluation and I got an e-mail report last Monday. They checked the stylus and gave it a B- rating. The stylus currently in the player has an A- rating so it will be staying in the player. The B- stylus will be put in my stock just in case something happens to the styli in either of my 2 Sears players. When Tom gets the store up and running, I will be buying 2 belts for this player.

Now, I am waiting for 2 transfer rod couplings from CEDatum so I can repair an SJT-200 player. (I broke 2 new couplings while trying to replace the bad one). This player is my workhorse as I have 6 NOS styli in stock for the SJT players that I bought back when you could find them. (I bought them from a supplier on the west coast back 10+ years ago). Don't ask me the supplier's name as I don't remember it now.

Update:

I replaced the transfer rod coupling on my SJT-200 player and attempted to play a CED. Well, the player showed "--" on its display and gave no picture. I removed the stylus and inserted a new one and tried to play a CED. It played with no problem. An inspection of the old stylus told me why it would not work. The needle was stretched and hung down below its normal position by about a half inch. This player had a problem in the past in that it somehow had 3 discs on the turntable when it stopped working. (The 3 discs also caused the transfer rod coupling to break). The stylus must have been jammed up against the 3 disc stack and got walloped. Since I have 4 NOS styli left in stock, I will wait on sending this "bent" stylus to CEDatum.

I am happy to say that I now have 3 working CED players. I have another SJT-200 player that needs some work, a Sears 934....150 player that works but has a problem with its disc slot and an SJT-090 that I don't know if it is working.

Time to do some more tinkering.
